“We want a player that will have the biggest impact on our team”.... or something like that.

With Murray and Gilbert in the fold an OT will not have an “ big impact”. An OT MIGHT challenge to start but will unlikely unseat anyone immediately and have an impact.

considering the fact that we are looking at ota’s being cancelled and an abbreviated off season makes me believe it will not be an OT...not with #8. A 3rd or 4th rounder would allow time to be developed.

Lamb, Brown or Simmons would offer that “ biggest impact” almost immediately.

So I’m not saying this is what we should do. I, like all of you , are trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

I can guarantee you, I’m probably wrong. Lol.

I would counter simply with this - it's our best chance in a long time to have a chance at an offensive lineman who will dominate for years to come. Keep Kyler Murray clean and with the time to make plays, and he should make wide receivers better.

You never know what Keim will actually do but you are right regarding that a RT would not have the biggest impact in fact might not start if Gilbert stays healthy.
I think Lamb or Simmons would be starters and contribute from day one. Not sure about Brown as he most likely would be rotating in the DL.

It sure feels like a wide receiver at this point unless someone elite falls in the draft. I do think it will involve a trade down.

I am glad I dont have to make the decision on which way to go. Like always, no matter what you do, its more likely we will be looking back in 2-3 years and crying about who we could have, should have, taken instead.

SK said that there were 8-10 Blue Chip guys in the Draft, but no one (fans) seems to know if that number included QB's. So, I'm sure he'll take the highest rated BC guy, and how many are left when we pick would determine how far we can trade back.

Justin Murray was our best Olineman across the back half of the season. Its taking fans time to realize it because our Oline has been so bad for so long but we truly dont need to draft OL at 8.

For what it's worth I think you are correct.

I am just scared the player we draft is going to be Brown, who is not going to make an impact.

I think we can get a good RT in round 3 or 4 that will be a development project for Kugler. Some that could be there are Charles - LSU, Peart - Connecticut, Adeniji - Kansas, and Steele - Texas Tech. I'm sure there are others.

Like oaken said... this isn't very compelling. We have plenty of developmental projects right now. Let's get a game changer.

I simply can't imagine that we will have the same luck with injuries along the Oline as we did last year. I will make ten dollar bets with as many ASFNers that want in on the action, Gilbert will not start 14 or more games this year. Then we have Hump and Pugh with their injury histories.

Having said that I've decided if Simmons or Okudah are there then that should be the pick. In a trade down I want Kinlaw at DT. Brown scars me a bit because of his Combine performance.

I actually think Dline is our weakest unit on paper but I expect the Oline to end up being the biggest problem, again because of injuries.

Yep, Gilbert staying healthy and Justin Murray not regressing into the player he's been his entire career are huge risks.

But I like Brown more than you do, and agree that DLine is probably our weakest spot. Having Brown, Peters, and Phillips up front sounds like a lot of beef to move around in a running division.

Can't argue about Brown, I'm probably letting the combine impact my grade on him too much. I mostly only hear great things about him.

I agree that it will Lamb, unless Simmons drops. Keim wants an immediate impact and as you said we are probably going to have a reduced off season if a meaningful one at all. So who better to draft than a WR who is one year removed from playing with your QB? KK already changed all terms to match Oklahoma etc. We are lucky again, like with KK wanting Murray when we happen to have the 1st pick, in that Lamb is arguably the best player at his position in the draft and elite and should be available at our pick.

With regards to OL we always hear that it’s more the play of the unit and how they bond as rather than an individual player necessarily. Not to say a great one won’t improve our OL but do we have the time etc this off season to build that bond?

If we stay at #8, and I hope we don't I expect that we'll know whom we'll draft, after the Giants pick at #4 or #5 or #6. Since Miami and LA seem certain to take QB's, our pick depends on the NYG. We have Brown, Simmons and Wirfs as our three possibilities. So if NY selects Simmons, we take Wirfs (with Thomas the sleeper OT). But if the Giants realize that Jones needs better protection and they go OT, that means EITHER Brown or Simmons will be available. Since just about everyone has Carolina selecting Brown, it looks like Simmons is our choice.

P.S. This will lead to many threads trying to decide what position we play him at.
