Racing Louisville FC fans won't get to watch any Thunder Over Louisville fireworks from Lynn Family Stadium this weekend due to flooding on the riverfront, but kickoff for the team's match against the Washington Spirit is still set for 5 p.m. Saturday, a team spokesperson said.
Streets around the stadium were closed off Tuesday morning as floodwaters lingered from weekend storms, but with the scheduled Racing game days away, officials with the team are not sure yet if parking options will be impacted, spokesperson Jonathan Linter said Tuesday. By Friday, Racing plans share information to ticket holders for Saturday's game if alternate routes are needed to access parking lots.
"We're not anticipating any issues at this point," Linter said, adding that if Adams Street remained blocked off Saturday, fans may be able to access parking lots via Cabel Street or Story Avenue.
As for the soccer field, the system used to maintain the playing surface has kept things dry, Lintner said.
"We've had massive downpours at the stadium before," he said. "(The floodwaters) would have to be really high for us to not play."
Fields over at the Edith Road training complex were flooded over the weekend, however, so Racing and Louisville City FC have trained at Lynn Family Stadium or on the University of Louisville's campus, Lintner said. Other team employees have worked remotely due to flooding.
With Thunder-related festivities now canceled at Lynn Family Stadium, gates are set open at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Fans can purchase $2 beer and Pepsi in bars around the concourse as they find their way to their seats.
"It's unfortunate there is no Thunder this year, but we understand the circumstances," Lintner said. "We hope we can try again next year."
Louisville's minor league baseball team expects to play its scheduled games at Slugger Field this week. Despite the cancellation of Thunder, the Bats stated the team's game Saturday against the Indianapolis Indians is still scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
