This one is interesting. He won a previous coach of the year award for being a running backs coach, most recently was coaching tight ends and is now brought up to the NFL level for a defensive position.

We're going with quite a few college coaches

As interesting this young staff is you would have to think there will be some growing pains and a learning curve

Huge difference between college and pros

I sense a trend - 'rising stars'
And even better 'excellent teachers'

If there was any doubt before, we gonna be building this roster primarily through the draft and college free agents. Betcha we have a large contingent at Indy next week, which may partially explain the rapid hiring of the coaching staff.

I like it!

And you know this how?

Are they posting the salaries somewhere?

I don't know it. I said I doubt it. Why would they?

WHy would they think "You're good enough to be our CB coach but were going to pay you less than the last one?"

I doubt very much they are paying them less than anyone else. The CB coach we brought in from Northwestern will be getting paid exactly what the last guy was paid.

My response is to this bolded statement

You said exactly and I asked how you knew

IMO a guy with NFL experience that has been on other staffs will merit more money that a guy getting his first shot coming out of college

Yeah these are high level salaries. I’d be shocked if they aren’t individually negotiated.

if the money sucks why would the guy leave college at all?

Ditto for Ryan Day. Three years ago, Day was making $400,000 as an assistant coach at Ohio State. Now, he's due to make $5.6 million in total compensation in 2020, and his pay will climb to $7.6 million by 2022.

so by that...assistant coaches at Ohio state were making 400k...in 2017

why go to the NFL for less money when turnover for new staff is more frequent?

Actually this is a good point. I just looked this up and there's no salary difference between college and the NFL. They may well be at Northwestern and smaller schools. But the P5 teams and divisions like the SEC the position coaches are getting an average of $400-$500k a year. That's the same as reported for the NFL.
