The Nebraska Cornhuskers faced off against Arizona State in the opening round of the College Basketball Crown tournament. Despite trailing by double digits a few minutes into the second half, the Huskers came back and blew by the Sun Devils en route to an 86-78 win, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Nebraska outscored Arizona State 56-40 in the second half, despite not retaking the lead until seven minutes left in the game. But once the Huskers gained the lead, they never let the Sun Devils take it back.
Nebraska shot 31-of-61 from the floor, 20-of-31 in the second half alone, while holding Arizona State to 26-of-56. The Huskers also landed 8-of-24 from three-point range against the Sun Devils' 6-of-20. Though Arizona State did finish 20-of-26 from the charity line while Nebraska shot 16-of-22.
The Huskers capitalized off takeaways, however, finishing with 24 points off 14 turnovers along with 11 steals. Nebraska also outscored the Sun Devils in the paint 44-30.
Brice Williams dropped another 30-piece performance for Nebraska in the win, going 8-of-16 from the floor, 4-of-10 from beyond the arc and 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
Williams's performance is the second-highest scoring postseason outing in school history, trailing behind Tom Baack's 33-point game in the 1967 NIT. Williams is also just the second Husker in the Big Ten era with four 30-point games in a season, joining James Palmer Jr,. who also had four in the 2018-19 season.
Juwan Gary delivered 18 points, finishing 8-of-16 alongside Williams, but going just 2-for-2 at the foul line. Connor Essegian scored 17 points off the bench for Nebraska, all coming in the final 10:29 of the game. He shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor in the second half, after going 0-of-2 in the first.
This is Nebraska's first postseason win since 2019. The Huskers face the Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. (CT) on FS1.
