I think it would be a nice fit to have Wilson play in the box more often than they had previously wanted him to and play Fransisco and Holt at safety. It would be a situational thing with Pace or Blackstock filling in on the other formations. I know he has already played a lot of downs in the box and thats where he thrives, but with Okeafor's injury, I think we might be better off playing him more in a OLB role than a deep safety. Plus he put on some more weight over the offseason so hes real close to being the right size for a OLB at about 235. Well I wanna hear what you guys think of this.

It's a thought. But 235 is not the right size for an OLB in a 3-4. PACE at 265/270 is about ideal in terms of size.

pro bowl safety, lets let him stay there. Rolle for OLB ; )

Um, I'm a little weary of that idea. More than a little actually. Why do you think it's a good idea (other than he stays the hell away from recievers)?

Urban says it will be Blackstock vs. Pace competing for Chike's spot. Ideally, when a player goes down and you move a reserve player up one notch to replace him, you've only made one roster change to your lineup. But when you move a guy over from another position, you're making two roster changes.

The last thing this team needs in the midst of new coaching and new scheming is more instability. Best we let Wilson stay where he is.

That said - with all the multiple stuff Pendy is throwing at our defensive players, there should be enough flexibility within the system to move A-Dub (in his current spot as SS) around to where he can be most effective in any given down & distance situation (and if this means helping replace some of the things Chike was good at, it would make sense to do it).

I know who won't be replacing Chike, Joe Tafoya.

possibly play him a little more at roy back but I wouldnt mess up a good thing at this point.

I wouldn't be suprised if he gets stuck at nickel (roy, if you're all super fancified) if Hood beats him preforming this preseason, I guess we could consider it depth. I don't think it'd be a bad thing either.

I say yes to AW at OLB. He is a beast and would do well there.

The 3-5-3...here it comes!

(3) DOCKETT--WATSON--BERRY (SMITH--BRANCH--COOPER)

(5) ROLLE--DAVIS--HAYES--DANSBY--WILSON

Buster Davis was running with the 3rd team on Saturday. I agree that we'll see a lot of the 3-3-5 this season (as we saw a lot of it last year), but it'll look more like this:

Dockett -- Watson -- Smith (Cooper--Branch--???)

Pace -- Hayes -- Dansby (Blackstock--Beisel--Berry)

Rolle--Wilson--Holt--Francisco--Green (or Hood--this contest isn't over)

The whole idea of the 3-4 look was to get Berry less beat up. He'll get injured again if he has to play end in that alignment.

This team remains really thin at DE and OLB. I bet that they'll convert back to a full-time 4-3 by the bye week. This'll be a good thing if Watson and Branch can play together, because it potentially would give the Cards the best DT tandem this side of Marcus Stroud and John Henderson. I'm not sure where the pass rush would come from if Darnell Dockett and Antonio Smith were our DEs, but that's a bridge that we'd have to cross.

This might not be the thread for it, but how did Hood look v. the Raiders?

only so so. No great hits, or plays on the ball. I don't remember him getting beat badly either though.

I'll rewatch the game for the 3rd time sometime this week.

This time, I am going to focus on offensive line play, and the injuries to Ross/Okeafor.

There is really nothing on tape showing the injuries, but... I'd be interested in your views on the 0-line. I watched Wells and then Levi, and can't say that I share all of the pessimism written here by the usual suspects.
