I recently bought a GenieGo to be able to load recorded programs and live stream them from DirecTV. I actually got it set up and working. A week or so later it quit and I went back in to see if I could figure it out.... I'm usually completely clueless about this sort of thing but I might have stumbled on the problem.

I found a message that says my router doesn't support static IP addresses. I went into the router setup and I think the address I entered had changed for the Geniego. Is this possible? Do I need a new router? If so, is it easy to find out if it supports static IP? Do any of you recommend one? Am I off base here?

I have Samsung 7 tablet and droid razr, wife has Mac and iphone and we have our printer on wireless plus 3 TVs on whole home DirecTV.

¡Gracias en antemano!

I would first call your ISP and explain the problem to their tech support.

They should either explain the issue or get one of their router/modems and you get support.

Did that with cox, and I can call up any time if I have issues.

Ok, I'll try that. I switched to Xfinity a while back because Century link in my area of town was so slow it wouldn't even stream Youtube on my Samsung smart TV.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Keep in mind that if you did not get your router from your ISP and got it yourself, they may refer you to them.

This is probably the case. When I switched to Xfinity, I already had a Linksys wireless router.

It's Directv message that's telling me that my router doesn't support static IP.

Most ISP's won't give you a static IP unless you pay for it. The streaming service probably wants a static IP to maintain a consistent service.

However, I've found with cox that my IP has been pretty stable once the connection is made to cox. You might just try turning everything off and back on starting with modem - if you have one - then router then devices. It might start working again until the IP changes.

I did reset the IP address and it streamed for a couple of days and IP address changed again... I found out yesterday about having to pay for static service, just haven't had time to call them and ask how much.

Directv is also saying with their new receivers, you don't have to have a hard wire connection to the satellite for all your additional TVs. You only have to connect to one of them and all other sets will work completely wirelessly. Gotta make sure I'll be set up for that too when it's time to get new receivers.

You guys are a big help with this stuff.

There are two places you may need a static IP.
One is inside the router and one is outside. Outside the router is the domain of the ISP. I am having a hard time understanding a home service that cannot deal with a dynamic internet address.

The other fix for inside is to log in to your router and set a dhcp reservation for the device. This will make sure that the router always gives that device the same internal IP so it will not break any address translation the router is handling.

I have a different problem/question:

I have AT&T Uverse. Their Internet modem/wireless router is garbage.

I started with them December 2013.

Last month, the router stopped sending out a wireless signal. They sent me a new one. Now the new one is doing the same.

Help?

Log into the router and change channels. There could be other wifi devices in the house or in your condo using the same channel.

I have somehow fumbled through getting my system to work. The IP address for the GenieGo devices has now remained stable for a couple of weeks. So far, so good. I really appreciate the help and advice you guys gave me. At least, I now know how to log onto my router make changes when I need to...

Thanks again for your help.
