We have some engineers here at work who are itching to watch some international cricket tournament that starts 3-13. Apparently it's PPV on Dish network so we're trying to get a dish installed for it and have landlord approval as long as we use an existing roof penetration to run the wire in from the dish on the roof.

Turns out the previous tenant had what appears to have been a tv antenna and they already created a roof penetration and ran what looks like a coax cable down from the roof and terminated both on the 2nd floor(in a conference room) and in the first floor(what was their rec room).

Is it even remotely possible that this wire would be intact, and would work if you put a dish on one end and receiver on the other or is that a pipedream?

The major holdup right now is since it's in a business we have to go through their corporate offices as a private business install and thus is costs more and you get a separate install group and a different rate and it takes longer, so I'm trying to do my part to save time on the actual install.

Yes I did that and it's saying it's fine but the Dish Network guy as expected said they don't use that type of cable but will be able to use it as a pull string to get their cable in.

So what would I do with a toner anyways?

It just tests the cable so that you know there is no break in the line. The line is capable of carrying the signal. However, that doesn't mean that the cable is optimal for carrying a SAT feed.

Yeah I was continuing the toner joke from other posts. I toned it out just to make sure it was the right cable because it goes all over the place.

The installer saw it, said he'd use it as a pull cable. Still waiting due to contract issues since we're a business we get a private business install with a contract and they screwed up on the original contract.

So they've missed some of their cricket tournament already.

Would have helped had I read the previous posts. That's what I get for skipping to the end. :D

Figures it finally works, they used the old wiring as a pullcable. And now today our bigscreen tv dies. So I took an extra monitor from our old video conference system and hooked it up for now. So we went from 50 inch to 32.

The bigscreen has been sitting in storage for over 2 years since our company moved, storage being onsite, no idea why it crapped out.
