Wisconsin guard Camren Hunter is entering the NCAA transfer portal.
Verbal Commits was the first to report the news, with several other outlets, including The Athletic and On3, quickly confirming the initial report.
Hunter departs after one year with the Badgers. He transferred into the program last offseason after beginning his career at Central Arkansas. The junior guard appeared in 11 games in 2024-25, totaling just 23 minutes, three points, five rebounds and an assist. Unlike transfer wing John Tonje, who emerged as an All-American in his one season with the program, Hunter struggled to break into the Badgers' deep lineup of contributors.
Wisconsin started Max Klesmit and John Blackwell at guard, then deployed Kamari McGee and Jack Janicki as the position's primary bench contributors. Hunter saw much of his projected playing time go to Janicki, a standout walk-on freshman, who finished the season with averages of 11.4 minutes, 1.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
Dating back to his two years as a full-time starter at Central Arkansas, Hunter averaged 15.5 points, five rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals. That includes tallies of 16.9 points, five rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals as a sophomore in 2022-23. The 6'3" guard then missed the entire 2023-24 season due to injury before transferring to Wisconsin.
He enters the portal with a final year of eligibility remaining.
John Blackwell, Janicki, sophomore Daniel Freitag and a few projected transfer additions are set to lead the Badgers' guard rotation in 2025-26. Hunter would have likely been among a crowded group battling for reserve minutes.
The veteran guard is the first Wisconsin player to enter the portal since it opened on Monday. Bookmark our transfer interest tracker for up-to-date information on the program's pursuits.
