You know, if I was Kobe, I would seriously be considering the Clippers. Here are the reasons.

The Lakers, one way or another, will be a worse team, and Kobe will be blamed. It will even be worse if Shaq improves the Heat.

Take a hard look at the supporting cast (this is not original with me, I saw an article making this comparison).

Point guard. An unhappy, old Gary Payton who performed poorly in the playoffs this year vs. Marko Jaric, but more importantly a very young promising pg in the HS kid from Illinois.

Small forward. Caron Butler vs. Corey Maggette. Butler's game hit a major sophomore slump. Maggette is blowing up. Maggette is bigger, more athletic, and Kobe's workout partner.

Power forward. Odom vs. Brand. Brand is productive, a good citizen and an all-star. Odom seems to be making progress but is one strike away from a major drug suspension. Plus, Odom is really a sf, not a pf. He does not play the inside physical game that Brand does.

Center. Kaman. Promising young big man. The Lakers have nothing but bench warming stiffs. The Lakers could add Divac, but that would be a short term solution.

Bottom line; The Clippers with Kobe might well be a better team than the Lakers with Kobe. The added benefit is that Kobe would get credit for lifting a franchise from perennial loser status.

I agree that the Clips have more talent right now than the Lakers. The Lakers will add players to improve their team over the next 2 years. Plus, the Clippers are the Clippers.

but the problem with the clippers is that kobe wont get enough shots. on the clippers you have brand and maggette who must get some shots. in otherwords kobe wont get the 40 shots he wants a game.

The Lakers are in shambles. Hopefully Kobe resigns with them so that both LA teams will be mired in mediocrity while the Suns shoot to the playoffs.

The clippers sound better now, but its only a matter of time before sterling drives the team into the gutter again. atleast with the lakers he knows that they're going to make an effort to get right back to where they were.

Why Kobe will choose the Lakers over the Clippers

1) About a $40 million difference in guaranteed salary.
2) The marketing possibilities of being a Laker vs being a Clipper.
3) The Lakers will not be as bad as everyone here seems to think.

According to ESPN.Com...

Payton will ask to be bought out when Shaq is traded. The Lakers just look awful next year.

If I am the LA Lakers I tell Gary Payton to go to hell. They wanted him to opt out of his contract, that he decided to stay despite all the rumors that Shaquille O'Neal would be traded. There's no way I would pay him to leave now. That's borderline ridiculous.
