I am greatly underwhelmed here. I have watched all the All Star Slam Dunk contests, and there have been a few stinkers. There was one point the NBA talked about discontinuing the contest. However, this year I think was the WORST contest ever. No imagination, hardly any spins, elevation, etc. Just my opinion, but I thought this year's contest sucked. MAYBE 2 dunks were worthy of the contest. :bang:

Agreed. I haven't watched many, but this was the worst. No creativity, and it looked like they were all out partying way too late last night.

I still think the year Brent Barry beat out Finley was worse but this one was bad. Best part was TNT leaving a camera on Gerald Wallace's face completely missing one of the better dunks of the night.

Agreed. No creativity whatsoever. Only dunk I liked was Derozoan's first, and then it was all downhill from there. Come on, you're in the dunk contest, you don't prepare a little bit? You don't come up with more than one dunk to ooohhh the crowd? Please

Creativity? Are you kidding me? There is only so many ways and so many props you can use to dunk a darn basketball. They have been doing this contest for close to 20 years IIRC. Time to let it go.

They need to just **** can it altogether.

Wrong. The last few dunk contests have been very creative. Did you watch them? How can you say they weren't? The superman, previous nate, etc contests were quite entertaining. They're pulling out phone booths, costumes, blowing cupcake candles out. That stuff was great. It showed if you put a little thought into it rather than recycle the same garbage something pretty spectacular could be showcased. These guys didn't try at all.

In a van...down by the river.
I agree it's been underwhelming for many years.
I've got a couple ideas to "liven" it up a bit.......and add some excitement. :D

1) Put pads on the dunker and then put two "defenders" underneath the basket.(my personal favorite)

2) Raise the rim

The contest has been lack luster for a while now. I was mildly excited when LeBron announced last season that he was going to do it and when he pulled out, I knew the competition was dead from the spot.

The only thing that is going to save the contest is to bring quality players back. The dunk contest was at its peak when Nique and Jordan were going at it. Who the hell is Demar Derozan? Shannon Brown? (I know who he is, but WTF!)

Shaq had a good idea earlier this year to have the upper echelon players like Kobe and Lebron have a dunk contest to raise funds for Haiti.

Kobe laughed off the idea and called it "ridiculous."

Lebron stated "as I get older everyday, the chances of me doing it just fade off." Huh? You're 25!!

I'm not sure how the ratings are holding up, but I know I won't watch unless there is something entriguing to see.

first we need more stars in the dunk contest.
lbj, kobe, wade, etc.
just look at the people playing in the all-star game.

2nd we need more contestants, there are only4, then it gets cut down to 2 guys.
atleast 6 would be good.

im pretty dissapointed in shannon brown, and this guy petitions and makes his own site to promote himself.

People said the same thing for years in the late 90s and in 2000 they had probably the best dunk contest ever. They just had the wrong participants.

A waste of my DVR hard drive space. The fans should have booed.

It was worth the bad events to listen to Reggie, Charles, and Kenny. Otherwise what was being shown was garbage.

The Calabasas gym comment was hilarious because much of this reminded me of me and friends messing around before playing a game.

I also like how Cheryl Miller was getting ready to read the winner and Charles said something like "Hopefully nobody." It was funny how Cheryl stopped and said, "I heard that Charles!" Also, the interviews with both finalists where they basically kept apologizing for their performance, and when the winner said, I think I did enough to win, but admitted it wasn't his best performance.

There were only two dunks all night where the fans cheered. Otherwise it was pretty quiet in that huge stadium.

:lmao:

Wearing a superman outfit doesn't make a dunk original my friend. The contest blows and has for a lon long long time.

Phone booths? Candles? Costumes? Not really what the contest is about JMO.

Time to end it.

Since the dunk contest is comprised of nothing but scrubs, they should replace it with NBA dodge ball.

That's right, use the actual basketballs as the balls. 5 on 5. I mean, this would definitely bring a different element to the all-star break. And if anyone gets injured, who cares. They are scrubs. :D

The freaking HORSE competition was more exciting than the dunk contest. At least Durant and Rondo brought their game...

I think all of the events stunk...based on the personnel choices. the 3 point winner had to lobby just to make the cut.

the regional teams were ok to watch and looked creative, but why did they have gasol shooting 3's?

why is the smallest player in the league the dunk champ for 3 straight years?

again this comes down to personnel choices....they might as well put T.O. in the dunk contest. I think T.O. can do a basic slum dunk can't he? He actually got some pub out of it anyway. In fact T.O. might have been the highlight of the all star weekend so far it's been that dull.

the NBA stars are lazy these days. I guess they would rather look pretty for the camera sitting down and texting their lineup for the evening party rather than put on a real show for the fans. I think they are too scared to lose to a 5 foot freak. During the competitions last night Larry Legend and MJ must have been spitting their boos out at the bar ALA homer simpson watching the PLOW KING commercial!

and that's sad because I thought the horse comp was terrible too.....but you may be right. again it just points out to how poorly these things are thought up. they had rondo a guy who couldn't make an open jumpshot 2 years ago missing layups during a game of horse? and the rookie that they brought out wasn't any better. at least bring in guys that can actually make a shot!

why not steve nash vs dirk? in dallas? it would have made total sense?? or bring back some retired stars. something better than that...it looked like a dirty diaper.
