I was talking to some people at work about how I was going to buy the dvd "There's Something About Mary" and half the people in my office told me that was a stupid movie. I told them it was a classic and of course they disagreed. What these people had in common was they all were females. I guess there are those who don't know a great comedy if it hit them in the a$$.

I own both versions...

*****SPOILERS*****
Trivia: Steve Young was to play the part of the "ex boyfriend" but he objected to the adult content and subject matter of the movie, so they got Brett Farve. Brett had one of the classic lines in this movie, "We're in town to play the Dolphins *******!"

Every time some one asks me, "What are you doing here?" I inevitably reply (in my best Brett Favre drawl, which sounds a little like he's got a mouth full of marbles): "I'm here to play the Dolphins, you *******."

Ohh, I laugh and laugh. Then I realize people are looking at me funny and I leave the room.

I agree with the above posts, this movie is a CLASSIC.

FRANK'S 'n BEANS!!!!

Try walkin into a supermarket screaming that with your buddies.

My only guess is that the women in your office are repressed. Some people just don't know how to have a good time.

I thought it was funny, but I probably wouldn't buy it...not a movie I really want to own...there are a lot of others I'd want.

Awesome flick, one of the funniest movies ever IMO.

Right up there with Blazing Saddles and Brain Donors.

This movie's preview made me laugh so hard, people were still shooshing me while the cavemen ran across the frozen tundra during the beginning of "The X-Files" (the feature we had gone to see.)

Whenever I watch it now, I still have to pause at certain segments so that I can laugh myself out lest I miss the rest of the movie.

"No! Not six! Seven. Can't even get your heart on a wheel in six. You know seven! Seven Eleven . . . Seven chipmunks, sitting on a branch, eatin' lots of sun flowers on my Uncle's ranch . . . You know - that old children's tale from the sea!" Harlan Williams as the hitchhiker is easily one of the funniest scenes in movie history. - almost every character in that movie is brilliant which elevates it from mere gross out hijinks (even though the gross-out stuff was absolutely hilarious sh*t as well).

In fact my Mother-in-law bought this DVD for me but I took it back for something else I wanted more.

It was a very funny movie however.

It is definitely "purchase worthy". :D

I think it depends on if you saw it on your own, without hearing about it, or after hearing the hype of those first to see it...

I kept hearing that it was the funniest movie ever, many of these people never had steered me wrong so I went...

It was maybe a 6 on the 1-10 scale of funny... and overall rated about a 4 for me... I rank it right along side other Ben Stiller movies, just as funny as dodgeball, but neither was great...

The first time I saw it I had never laughed so loud in my entire life. However I think most of the shock value of much of the humor wears off after a while. I just don't think it is as funny as it was the first time I saw it. I don't think I would buy this one on DVD.

Also, I don't think it comes anywhere near to Blazing Saddles.
