At this point, I wouldn't want him either. Moreover, I don't think any team in the league would give up a very good young superstar for him. The rumor-mongers are talking about Indiana, but I don't think the Pacers would give up Jermaine O'Neal. I guess I could see Memphis giving up Gasol and other attractive young talent, but that's only because they don't seem all that high on Gasol, for some mysterious reason.
Shaquille O'Neal doesn't exactly have a stellar history. He made it to the Finals once with Orlando, playing alongside a dominant Penny Hardaway, and got swept. With the Lakers, he has won three titles, but only while being coddled by Jackson and well supported by Bryant and other solid role players. Once the support was less than first-rate, so was he.
Even if there were a way to make it work under the cap (which there isn't), I think it's very unlikely that the Suns would accept any deal for O'Neal that included Stoudemire -- which the Lakers would insist on. Overall, it's much more likely that O'Neal remains a Laker for the rest of his career (however long that is) or the Lakers simply let him walk than it is that he will be traded.
