With all the talk of him saying he is sorry, I don't buy it and would havv done it too if I could have made that much money. And as much as I hate the guy and think he is a douche, I can't blame any of those guys for doing it. MLB let them get away with it for so long and then said stop after these guys made their careers from it.

I don't know if I would have done them, but with most everyone doing them, hard to say no.

hard to say.. I wouldn't take steroids in my life today just to have a better body.. but when you consider the fact it made the difference in millions of dollars.. then probably yes.. If there was a drug to makes me a better salesman, I would take it, because now we're talking about money directly into my pocket.

on the flip side of the coin though.. these guys didn't do it just for the money, or even mainly because of the money. they did it to get the competitive advantage. all star games, mvp's, records. all the fame and glory.

touchy subject. hard to say unless you're in those shoes.

I would have. Almost actually did when I was in the minor league. There were a lot of players that did use them and it easy to get. This was 12-13 years ago. Obviously its way different now days.

No they cheated.

No they didn't and if you think they did, then so with Ruth, DeMaggio and even Roger Maris. It was not against the rules. Hell, George Brett did things that were actually against the rules that were considered a competitive advantage, so is he a cheater?

Pete Rose didn't use the juice, but gambled. Wonder if he will ever be let in the HOF

Your poll can only be answered personally.

If I have to cheat to succeed, that is not succeeding. Not in my eyes.

But, yes, the MLB front offices knew what was going on and looked the other way for the sake of revenue. They are equally responsible.

As the saying goes, "There is no gravity. The earth sucks." :)

Or to put it seriously, human nature is disappointing.

Yeah, Ruth cheated . . . with booze. I don't think that enhanced his skills.

And DiMaggio (check your spelling), what did he cheat with? By marrying Marilyn Monroe? That might have enhanced his skills, but not baseball. :)

Aside from the bit negative press being forced to give half hearted apologies, what has really been the consequence? Are these guys having to repay money that the earned because they were using PED's? Nope. So sure. Heck, I'll do them right now and I don't even need them!

You are right, I should have said Mickey Mantle instead of DiMaggio since I was referring to greenies. All those Yankees look the same to me.

Yes, I'd have used roids if I was in the league back then, but I wouldn't have done it "giant head/heart explosion" style like Barry. No HGH, just a dusting of Andro to reach them fences.

And since someone brought him up, I think what Rose did was infinately worse than what any steroid user has done. Its one thing to try and get an edge on the competition, its another to be wagering on games that you're partaking in. And I don't care that he supposedly only bet on his own team, because as the manager it puts him in a situation where he is making decisions for individual games based on whether he has money riding on it or not, and not whats best for the team. If a manager in May is using his pitchers like its a playoff game then it can really screw with his roster for the following days and weeks. If he starts selectively wagering on his teams games then on the days he does not wager it might as well be a bet against them, because he sure as hell won't be running the team the same if he is going to wager the following evening.

Rose should not be in the Hall of Fame. Ever.

I completely understand where you are coming from with the Pete Rose situation. It's too bad a player like him will most likely never get into the HOF. Obviously he deserves being in there for the baseball part, but what he did was illegal, just like the BlackSox back in the day

I said no. I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs...so it's a pretty simple choice for me.

I'd rather be an average player that could look myself in the mirror at the end of my career than one of those who had to take drugs to make bigger money and have more fame.
