Would you trade Michael Floyd to the Browns for Karlos Dansby?

Just curious to see where people weigh in on this. Floyd will be a free agent after 2016 so it drops his trade value, but Dansby has one year left and is 30+.

edit: updated actual; contract. i forgot they picked up his option.

I'd be tempted. I really don't think we're ponying up for Floyd after this season and we need a playmaker SOMEWHERE at LBer in the worst way.

Unless floyd will play for peanuts I dont see us bringing him back, someone else is going to offer him big money.

Because of that and how much better we are whenever we have Dansby, id be all over it.

I think it's too early to judge Floyd. He could very well explode and I always get leery of trading a young guy for an older guy who has seen much mileage on his body. Not only that but as much as I have enjoyed the resurgence of Fitz, we all know with each game he is getting closer and closer to hitting the wall (we already thought he might be there). This isn't going to last forever.

Now if the Cards have already made up their mind he is not the future....it would make sense to try and do something like this.

Michael Floyd wont be a free agent until 2017, though he can be cut with no ramifications next year.

Meanwhile, if you take Dansby, you take him until 2018 and he'll be 35 in the final year of his deal. This is precisely what the team was trying to avoid when it decided not to offer anything beyond two years: having and aging linebacker who relies mainly on his speed.

Whenever a good player has such a dropoff as Floyd has had this year, it's obvious he's injured somewhere and the team is just not reporting it. It's very hard to trade an injured player.

In general I agree but I think it's a reasonable bet that Floyd leaves after the season anyways. I fully expect him to ask for more than the Cards think he's worth.

Edit, sounds like the contract info was wrong.

They picked up his 2016 option.

So while they can get out of it prior to new business year, Floyd is not a free agent.

As many times as Money$by has dissed cards for cash: my answer is, "Hell Yes!" We need him in the worst way and Floyd is what he is: gifted yet average. It's not too early to judge him as he's been in the league for 4 years and has exhibited little growth, package him with Niklas and rid of us of our Notre Dame underacheivers.

It is almost to the point in Dansby's career that SK will be able to get him on a 1-year prove it contract.

I thought this was floyds last year. My bad.

he is getting targets, just keeps getting his arms swatted before catches. hes not having that much of a down year and I dont think he is injured. He has 3 balls he would or did easily catch for another 150 yards if it werent for two guys interfering so much he couldnt catch and the third was a penalyy by us.

Actually, the entirety of Danby's $6M signing bonus would accelerate on to Cleveland's cap this year, and he doesn't have any more guaranteed money left on his deal.

Bascially, you'd get the rest of this year for $3.25M fully guaranteed, and then you'd have two $5M option years that you can wait until the end of training camp to exercise.

That's less than you'd have to carry on Floyd's $7M option next year.

I think I'd make that deal in a heartbeat, and I'm a huge Michael Floyd supporter.

Was this proposed somewhere as a possibility? Or is it just a message board "What if?"?

It would fix the weakest part of the team. Yes I think I'd do it.

Interesting scenario. Cards always seem to be able to find quality WR for the future, but who would be moved to his spot this year? I'd be inclined to make the trade though.

I know it was a money thing, but they should have paid him what he wanted. Its fun to think about but this will never happen.

John Brown is already out-numbering him in snaps, and we have Jauron Brown and J.J. Nelson who could step in and produce.

It's definitely a short-term/long-term play. You're hurting yourself in the long term (if nothing else, Floyd would be the heir-apparent to Fitz) to get older on your team.

Yes. My arguement would be that Fitzgerald, John Brown, Jaron Brown, David Johnson, and Andre Ellington are plenty of receiving options along with our use of two TE sets with Fells and Gresham. You essentially are dealing from a position of strength in order to bring in a veteran LB who can pick up the defense and provide you more options in the back 7. It allows a more solid pressence in the middle of our defense who can play all four downs. You could roll with Minter and Dansby in base with Bucannon at SS, and then Bucannon and Dansby in the nickel or dime.

I'm not a huge Michael Floyd fan, and there are more WRs than ever available through the draft. I just don't see us going very far with our current situation at ILB.

Has anyone been watching Dansby with the Browns? Not the same player as he was a couple of years ago.
