The Twins didn't have enough leverage to ask for Reyes. Santana was going to be on another team in 2009 no matter what. The Yankees pulled Philip Hughes off the table. The Red Sox weren't willing to offer Jon Lester and Ellsbury in the same deal. The Mets weren't even willing to trade their top prospect.
