You guys are all acting like the sky is falling. There was two times that Kurt through to Larry deep and he was open but he got overthrown. I believe both of those (as much as he was open) were both taken to the house. There was the fumble by Hightower that would have been a touchdown. There was a pick in the endzone that would have been a touchdown. Key mistakes that happened to our PLAYERS is what caused us to lose that game.

Last week we ran 28 times and threw 32 times. Nobody complained about the coaching then and I thought they were both coached about the same. Now a week later, about the same play calling as last week and now the sky is falling. It's a completely different game if Fitz is hit in his hands on both those bombs, no fumble, and no int. COMPLETELY different game.

I do think we need an OC coordinator though. With Grimm being an OL coach AND our running coordinator it seems like the pass blocking just isn't there this year. Grimm needs to coach simply the OL and we need to get someone who strickly only gameplans for the next weeks game. Mike Martz is NOT that guy.

I know I'm a minority here but I like the fact that we are trying to become a running team. I think we'll last longer as a powerhouse if we can establish a run. When Matt takes over in a year or two I want there to be no pressure of having to throw it because we still can't run the ball. I want a running game established to make his job one of the easiest things in the world.

I guess I'm just asking everyone to really think about last night. We have two weeks until we play again and the last thing I think everyone wants for the next two weeks is to hear everyday how bad we are, how much Whiz sucks (which isn't true. 2 months ago everyone wanted to get him a new contract), how awful our o-line is. I understand the emotional part of it (I was pissed too) but I'm still trying to use my head and not my emotions. I'm sure I'll be blasted for this and thats ok. Talking trash on the internet doesn't bother me :D. But we have some of the smartest football fans on this freakin board and all I keep seeing is how one week were amazing and the next week we need a complete overhaul and our coaching sucks! We aren't that bad of a team, we just turned the ball over in some KEY situations.

(P.S. - Remember the stat, when we lose the turnover battle were 1-16 or something ridiculous. Just look at last night...)

I completely agree with you on that. At the beginning of the season I picked 11-5 and we won 6-8 at home. I put down a loss for the Colts but I had us at 1-2 regardless. I thought we'd win against San Fran, lose against Jax away (east coast road trip), and lose here to Indy. So we are still in at as far as I'm concerned.

I think the team is confused. They are not used to having a home field advantage so the last two games at home they mistakenly thought that they were actually playing somewhere on the east coast.

Then they went to Jacksonville where half of the seats were empty. Clearly they thought that they had come home to SDS and played a great game.

This board needs some Zoloft. I've never seen a more bi-polar bunch of people in my life.

Moe what game were you watching? Last week the play calling was much more balanced and better. We threw the ball all night long and Beanie sat on the bench against a bad run defense, this game was so badly coached its pathetic!

Good Post Mo, and nice follow up Heucrazy.

Certainly a lot of things went wrong, and there is reason for concern. But even more so than it used to be, the mood of the board is completely dependant on whether or not we win.

Some positives:
1. Only 5 penalties.
2. Three 3-and-outs by the D to start the game.
2. Half time adjustments. Excellent drive at the beginning of the second half, especially given the disappointment of the end of the first half. We did that last year too.
3. Alan Branch.
4. Ben Graham.
5. I thought the right side, Brown and Latui, played well. The hold on Brown was a poor call.
6. We showed a continued good run defense, until the game was out of hand.
7. My take on Beanie not playing is tough love from Coach Wiz. Also, the slow implementation of the rookies into the lineup is how we have done things with a number of younger players. DRC, Calais. I don't love Hightower as the starter - much rather see him goalline/3rd Down/Change of Pace, but you can't deny his effort, and rewarding that is not all bad.

There certainly were more negatives that positives, no argument, but it's only one game. Someone already posted somewhere, but I was thinking it myself, Indy is a bad match for us. Small quick line to combat our passing game, and a good passing team to exploit our defensive weakness. It's the age old question of "Do you change yourself because of the other team". We chose not to this game. I suspect, if we played them again later in the season (wouldn't that be nice), we would see a lot more of Beanie.

Remember there is a 24 hour vent period regarding the game, the players, the coaching...but not the posters.

Urban said on his latest blog what I posted last night after the game. Beanie is good at one thing right now and thats running the ball. When it comes to recieving or blocking, he is NOT our best back. We went up by 3 points and Beanie came in. We went down and had to pass. Bringing Beanie in meant we were running. Having Hightower in makes the defense guess. I understand the logic.

Pssst! Look up.

The sky; she don't look so hot.

Seriously,

Despite all the favorable stuff (i.e. 5 penalties, Alan Branch, 20 completions to our Big 3 etc.), we did lose 31 to 10.

And with a score like that, you have to expect that fans will be traumatized. (You don't want trauma? Don't lose by 31 to 10).

It wasn't exactly the kind of performance you want to show on national TV in the hope of expanding the fan base. And it's not exactly what makes you feel really really proud about wearing Cardinal caps, tees and other gear in Non-Cardinal Land the next morning.

Aside from feeling really rotten about losing that way, the only question I'm focusing on is: "What does this imply for the rest of our season?

Well, we've certainly proved we can stink up the place and there's no reason why we can't be expected to do it again. But there's also talent on this football team, so maybe we can write off last night as a one-time aberration.

Like SF? (Yechhh! We've got a Bye. Maybe we can clean a lot of this stuff up during the extra week).

Also something to add abut the INT in the endzone, was that Boldin was held. Someone had ahold of his jersey... I can't believe The refs didn't see that.... It wasn't forced. It should havebeen an easy td...

I just wish there was a venting 'catch-all'. Thirty threads by the same author offering nothing new or terribly insightful makes page 1 of the forums look like crap.

Heh.
