Way to go ultra conservative with the play calling, when were deep on our own end of the field.

The run was not working all night, our punter was sucking ass, and you want to put the game in the hands of the defense, which was a fricking penalty machine all night instead of your QB whose having an MVP type of season???
Christ, at least give it to Q if your'e hell-bent on running.

BTW...Is anyone else pissed off when we are in obvious passing downs, and Kurt's not in the shotgun? Seems like he is 90% or so out of shotgun, when he lines up behind center on obvious passing downs, it scares the hell out of me, not sure why exactly either.


Oh well, we won, but I lost at least a year off of my life I think. :smiliefan:

We ran the ball on 3rd down and 2. I didn't agree with it at the time because a 1st down wins the game.
But after thinking about it, keeping the clock running turned out to be pretty important. Had we thrown an incompletion the clock would have stopped and the 49er's have the ball on the 2 yd line with 45 seconds left to play.

Either way , I am emotionally drained.

The one thing that really bugged me tonight, was our total inability to run the football.. we cant even run in short yardage anymore..

We gotta get a run game, if we want to have a real shot at progressing in the playoffs

That is exactly how I feel. I hope this game is an exception and not the rule when it comes to our running game. The 9ers seemed to be able to stuff any run attempt we had.

I am more than happy to watch Kurt throw the ball all over the field, but there will come a time when the Cards have to run the ball, I'd like to have the confidence that they can do it.

They went for it and converted for a TD on a huge 4th and 1, don't forget. I don't think Whisenhunt's balls have gone anywhere.

In fact, on that series you're complaining about, the by-the-book approach would have been to run it three times and make certain that the clock gets well under 2:00 and the Niners run out of timeouts. That they passed on first down was a significant departure from convention, though I admit it was a pretty obvious one since the Cards chances of converting on three runs in this game were pretty much nonexistent.

I think the whole brain trust is probably in disbelief that their running game is really that completely hopeless when it comes to picking up 2 yards on 2 plays.

Its pretty hard to run the ball when you're in the shotgun, in what 70% of the time? Its almost impossible to run the ball out of the shotgun at this level. I mean I love the passing game as much as the next guy, but the Cardinals will always be limited in their success if they are one dimensional.

It seems our O-Line is so focused on pass-blocking that they really lack fundamentals in the running game... last night was the worst run-blocking I remember for the season... thank God for the passing game or we would have been embarassed AGAIN by the stinkin' 49ers on MNF.

My complaint is this: i think you should only play to the clock when the clock is relevant.

Backed up deep in your own territory with 1 opponent time out and the 2:00 minute warning between you and the end of the game --- the clock wasnt fully a factor yet. If you dont get a first down, SF gets the ball back with 1:25 around midfield. Plenty of time for a TD. Only their mismanagement of the clock stopped them from running one more play.

With that in mind -- your QB has been completing 75% of his passes. On 3rd and 2 -- I will take my chances with the ball in Warner's hands.

Worst case-- tell Kurt to not throw that ball unless the guy is open. Take the sack and let the clock run.

The 4th and 1 play had my wife and I yelling at Disneyland for whis huge balls of steel. We were checking the game out on ESPN gamecast on my blackberry, and when it showed TD to fitz on fourth down we lost it.

We also yelled at the phone while it refreshed on big defensive plays. Aaaaahhhh!! Trying to add our voice to the crowd's.

Whis appears to take more chances on the road than he does at home which is probably the right thing to do most of the time.
