Xavier guard rides with the enemy

Xavier starting guard Mark Lyons was supposed to have a sidekick when he walked onto Albany's team bus for a very unusual and potentially awkward 12-or-so-hour trek that began at 10 p.m. Sunday night.

However, Musketeers star Tu Holloway couldn't get from Hempstead, N.Y. to Albany due to a major snowstorm that hammered much of the country. He was forced to return home for the night, meaning Lyons was flying solo on the Albany team bus en route to Cincinnati for Tuesday's game against Xavier.

"I didn't have much of a choice," Lyons told FOXSports.com shortly after getting on the bus. "It was a little uncomfortable at first."

Lyons and Holloway both had their flights canceled out of New York on Sunday , leaving Xavier coach Chris Mack and his staff scrambling for alternatives.

Pretty cool story. They give a player from the other team a 12-hour bus ride to the next game and he goes off for a career night against them, but the opposing coach definitely did the right thing.

Xavier, Lyons halt Danes' win streak

The Xavier men's basketball team extended its home winning streak to 30 games after an 88-64 rout of the University at Albany on Tuesday at Cintas Center in Cincinnati.

Xavier's streak is the nation's second-longest behind Kansas, which has won 65 straight decisions at Phog Allen Fieldhouse.

Schenectady native and Schenectady High graduate Mark Lyons, who joined UAlbany for a 12-hour bus ride thanks to a flight cancellation, scored 18 points to lead five Musketeers in double-figures scoring.

That's a great story.

When I was in HS we played Seaside which is out near Monterey, CA, about 90 minutes from where I went to school. They scheduled it with another game in the area and then didn't have the budget to put all the kids up for the night. So their coach called our coach to forfeit the game and our coach said we can fix this. Each player on the team took at least one kid (frosh soph and varsity) and had them stay at their place overnight. I had 3 guys at my house we were actually playing basketball on my courtyard hoop about 3 hours before we played against each other.
