I've been looknig around the net for Xbox mod chips so I can learn about them and maybe convert mine. What I'm seeing is that it should cost no more than $80-$90 to get a mod chip AND a hard drive installed. My question is if anyone here does that stuff and can help explain some of the benefits of doing this and helping me out with some of the terminology. I don't understand geekspeak. I'm seeing all this stuff on flashing, BIOS and a bunch of other stuff that's over my head. I'm sure someone here can help me out....

I could help you out with the geekspeak but so far I am too chicken to mod my own XBOX.

What are you looking to do with the XBOX that it needs modding? I know some people turn them into computers or play games off recordable discs. I know someone that had a modded PS2 but he bought it that way.

There is always webopedia for computer terms.

Basically, I've heard rumors that you can burn the entire Xbox games catalog to your hard drive and play entire games and hidden levels WITHOUT actually owning the disk. I also learned while searching the net that you can buy disks online that have emulators for games of systems past, such as NES, Genesis, etc. I would like to be able to do both of those things. How awesome would it be to play Kung Fu, Super Mario Brothers and Excitebike from NES and Sonic The Hedgehog from Genesis on your Xbox? I'd like all the Tom Clancy games, all the Hitman games, all the Medal Of Honor games, all the GTA games and some of the other cool fps games burned onto an upgraded hard drive in my modded xbox....

Very simple.

You don't need a chip to mod an Xbox, from what I understand. There is a software mod using an old game and a memory card, then you just burn DVDs of the games that you would get off of newsgroups. Obviously illegal, so it's a tough decision to make. But since a lot of games are smaller than the normal DVD size, you can put more than one game on a disk.

But you don't need a chip for the Xbox--you do for PS2, and as far as I know, there is no mod existing for Gamecube.

Oh, and the Emulators you get have thousands of games on them.

The hard disc issue is more complicated--there is some hardware installation issues, but I have no idea how to do it.

Try this site, it'll give you all the mod information you need:

There was a store in DC selling modded xboxes right on the shelf, preloaded with tons of games. Illegal of course, but it was right in the open.

They got raided, and I am sure the guys running that store aren't having fun playing games where they are now.

How dumb do you have to be to be selling stuff like that in the open? This wasn't a small store either.
