Id recommend this film to anyone. It has definite chick fick overtones, but the schmaltziness is made up for by a good independent film feel and a wonderful script.

It follows the story of two young guys who's girlies bail on them for the summer to tour Europe. They meet an older woman in a bad marriage who wants to split and the three of them hit the road for a a 5 day trip to a a beach whose existence the boys made up to get the woman to go along.

Lots of great interaction between the well developed characters. It is subtitled which may turn off some people, but overall Id give this film 4 out of 5 stars

You think so? I didn't think that at all. I thought it appeared to be much more gritty than a chick flick has a right to be. I think it revolved around primal desires, where love has no place.

To me, it's the "Anti"-chick flick. :D

That why I said overtones. The whole two boys searching for an identity, and finding it in an older female who offers them both life lessons and sexual identity type stuff.

It wasnt predominant by any means, but then feel good stuff was there. I was thankful it didnt reek of it, otherwise, youre right, the grittiness would have been missing, and that is also a good reason why it was a successful film.

I thought it was very gritty. Kind of made you want to shower after watching it, you know? The only thing I didn't like was that I didn't really sympathize with any of the characters and it was pretty raw. But worth seeing.

the way the story was told was really good. that type of film would never be allowed to be made in the US and i am sure if the film was released in englishk, it would have been given a NC 17 rating for sure.

Recently watched it. Gael Bernal seems to be in every Mexican movie I watch, which is great because he's such a good actor. This was a fascinating story, loved it.

You're right mattyboy, the uncut version got smacked with an NC-17 rating here. I always find these ratings funny. In France you need to be 12 to watch it.
