Here is a little GM game all can play.
Instead of everyone saying I told you so everyone here please come up with a pick under the following Criteria.
1. Who if you were the GM of the Phoenix Suns would you pick with Pick 15.
The following players are for sure off the board.
1. Rose
2. Beasley
3. Mayo
4. Gordon
5. Love
6. Alexander
7. Bayless
8. Westbrook
9. Gallinari
10. edit: added Brook Lopez
Besides these players which are guaranteed to be gone whom would you draft with in the 1st round 15th pick. You can edit right up to the day of the draft then when the draft begins maybe an admin can lock this. Who would you put your money and job on the line for as a GM. If you want please explain also.

15.___________________

I will go first to get this thing going

With the 15th pick in the draft the Phoenix Suns GM selects

Jason Thompson 6-11 250 lbs Rider Pf/c =

While Jason as of this date is not ranked even in the first round by either RealGM, DX, or NBADraft.net in the first round. The Scouting Guru believes Jason has the ability to come into the Suns organization and spell heavy minutes in the paint. Jason arrived at rider as a 6-7 player and grew almost a full 4 inches in college and added 30lbs. A true late bloomer no one saw coming. Jason will be a Dan Majerle pick of sorts because there is no media hype going on whatsoever about this kid.
Jason has a long wing span and a knack for scoring. On defense Jason isnt fast or athletic but keeps his hands up high enough to always seem to grab a couple blocks per game.
The Phoenix Suns will use Jason as a security blanket to the final years of Shaq at center, and problematic knees of Amare at pf. Amare and Shaq are both very foul prone and Jason will keep the suns from missing a beat if that should happen.

Brandon Rush

Suns need for 3 point shooting gets called with this 6'7 shooting guard. Long arms and good foot play also makes him a solid defender. Over 40% behind the line, he could be the Suns next Joe Johnson if he works on his ball handling and learns to create more shots for himself. Could become Suns starting SF because of his height with possibly Strawberry or Tucker at SG when Bell leaves or a free agent. Also is familiar with our fast break offense and high temp playing with the Jay Hawks. Also has a heart of champion after winning a NCAA championship.

We need to have such a thread every year. I'll have to decide for sure by the 25th and edit this post. For now:

I like Rush for his length and 3pt shooting, but keep in mind that he had an ACL tear and he's already 22.

According to the rules of this thread, both Lopez brothers and Augustin are still on the board, so I currently take, in this order:

Augustin, CDR, Rush, Randolph, Koufos, Greene.

Rush for all the listed reasons. He's a very good defender, shoots the three, plays well off the ball, and finishes well on the break. If he's still on the board, I don't think they would pass on him.

BTW, I see no way that Augustine is still available at #15. Indiana picks at #11 and they are in despiirate need of a PG.

I'll go and say Robin Lopez

The guy is 7 footer. He is another energy guy, rebounds, hustles, defends, something the Suns have lacked. He ain't good option on offence right now, but he knows how to play together with scoring big man.
Also I have heard a lot of reports that a lot of teams loved his workouts and the guy may find himself drafted in the lottery.

DJ Augustine, Robin Lopez, and Brandon Rush in that order. Those last two are really 2a and 2b in my mind though. I just don't see any way that Augustine slips all the way to 15. I think there's a reasonable chance that none of these three are available.

I was chatting last night with another "draft expert", and he repeated what I've been hearing about France's Alexis Ajinca. He said if you are looking for a home run in the middle of the first-round, Ajinca is well worth the risk. In each of the games where he got decent minutes he put up good numbers last season. He has a 7 '8" wingspan which would be the longest in the NBA.

I've heard good things about Ajinca as well. If I was thinking longer than two years I might be interested, but the transition from Europe can be hard for younger guys (Euro's in the late 20's do OK, but the young ones have struggled).

I'd really like to see the suns add another mid-round pick. Jack and the 13 for Barbs would be nice. Then draft Rush and Robin Lopez

That gives us

Nash, Jack
Bell, Rush
Hill, Diaw
Stoudemire,
Shaq, Lopez

I'd like to bring in Otis George to back-up Amare. He's the scrappy forward that we had on the summer team last year, but was still under contract in Europe. The Suns really liked him and were going to keep an eye on him from what I remember.

If the Jack/WEBSTER/#13 for Barbosa deal goes through, then the Suns need to draft a PF and a Center with #13 and #15.

If the Jack/OUTLAW/#13 for Barbosa deal goes through, then the Suns need to draft a SF and a Center with the #13 and #15.

If the Ford/#17 for Diaw is the only deal that goes through, then the Suns need to draft a PF and Center with #15 and #17.

If the Jack/WEBSTER/#13 for Barbosa AND the Ford/#17 for Diaw goes through, then the Suns need to draft 3 bigs (preferably a SF/PF combo, a PF/C combo and a true center) with the #13, #15, and #17.

If the Jack/OUTLAW/#13 for Barbosa AND the Ford/#17 for Diaw goes through, then the Suns need to draft a 2/3 Combo, and 2 bigs (like a 3/4 combo, a PF, a 4/5 combo or a center) with the #13, #15, and #17.

If after trade(s) we need a 2/3 combo go after Rush, Westbrook, Batum, CDR (in that Order)

If after trade(s) we need a 3/4 combo go after Alexander, Green (in that order)

If after trade(s) we need a 4 or 5 go after Speights, Thompson, Lopez, Koufos, Hickson, Ibaka, Ajinca, Jawai (in that order)

It is so hard to project who to pick at #15 unless one knows who is left on the board and any possible trades. I will stick with selecting Koufos at #15 unless the Suns can get a PG there like Augustin or Westbrook. I want a player with a larger upside and I worry that Rush, although a solid player, may not have the upside. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the Suns didn't do something later in the draft if Chalmers is there and they go big early.

If 15 is the only pick we have.....

I am going with Donte Greene

He will not play next year so some would see this as a wasted pick, but i think this kid has so much upside he is worth the gamble. A 6-10 wing who can shoot the ball, cut to the basket(If he wants to) and causes all kinds of match up problems if you are playing him at the 3. I see him as a bigger Tayshaun Prince with better shooting. In a pinch you could play him at the 4 with Stat at the 5, and get out and run, or go big with him at the 3. I think he could be an all star......someday

If not him then I like Jordan,Speights, and Rush in that order

Did you get to see Ajinca at this years Hoops Summit?? I was REALLY impressed...

The only issue I have, is he's pretty thin.

This is what worries me the most about Ajinca. I have read he needs to stay in Europe for a couple of years before he is NBA ready. I don't mind the Suns taking on a big that will take time to develop as long as he can get some limited playing time now as a role player. I don't like leaving a player over in Europe when the Suns minimally need a partial contributor now.

DJ Augustin, Donte Greene, Darrell Arthur, Robin Lopez, DeAndre Jordan, Mario Chalmers, Nicolas Batum (Suns think he needs time to develop, which drops him here), Alex Ajinca (see Batum).

The Randolph's, Speight's, McGeee's, and Thompson's of the Draft, haven't a clue about much but I kind of would like a big, although I REALLY like Chalmers but the article in paper mentioning him 'Only Augustin appears to be to be a possible No. 15 Pick' - after his workout, kind of rules him out??

I wasn't too high on any of the PG's outside of the top tier but Chalmers impressed ME after watching gamefilm...

I will say I couldn't afford VCR tapes much of the year but I finally have DVD recorder, so maybe next year I get right back into it.

The Lopez bros will suck in the NBA. Over hyped to the max.

If I'm the GM of the Suns I'd pick up Brandon Rush at 15, if he's still there. I dont think Westbrook or Alexander will be at 12 if the Trailblazers trade us their pick so I might keep Barblowsa rather than trading him off. I don't want Augustin.
