1.) Lock up Webb and ensure he is a D-back for the rest of his career. Same for Stephen Drew.

2.) They need a solution at second base. Hudson can't stay healthy and from what I can recall, it appeared he was on his way out of PHX, right?

3.) Need starting pitching and a closer - desperately!

4.) Use Chris Young in a deal to grab a high quality second basemen or closer...

Hire a Manager who will develop the young players. Go after Mark DeRosa to play second. Give Ojeda an extension to be the utility player. Then a entire new bullpen.

Wow, I totally disagree with these two points. Closer is a hugely over rated position and you don't trade a potential Gold Glove CF for one. Starting pitching? The D'backs have arguably a top 5 rotation in the majors. With Scherzer, they've probably got a long term #3 or 4 guy, and Davis is a good middle/back of the rotation guy. Sure, get another starter if you can, but don't break the bank.

I too would want to resign Webb. As far as what else they can do, they can't do a whole lot. The Byrnes deal really screwed them, if they could somehow dump him, they'd be set, but thats nearly impossible.

If I'm not mistaken Drew is represented by Scott Boras and there is no way Boras would pass up free agency years for a guy as talented as Drew without making the dbacks break the bank.

Dare I say . . . replace the Manager, Hitting Coach and Pitching Coach.

Move Eric Brynes at whatever cost it takes. Not re-sign Brandon Lyon.

And, if we're not going to retain Adam Dunn, prepare Mark Reynolds to be our regular 1B (he's been spectacular at catching the baseball, just not throwing it).

And, especially if Dunn leaves, get some LH batters to balance the lineup. (I don't believe Chad Tracy should be one of them.)

Davis is marginal but serviceable I guess... I really believe this team needs a Rivera/Paplebon/K-Rod type closer... With Webb, Haren, Scherzer and maybe Davis getting this team deep into the game with a lead on a consistent basis, and no real sign of any bigtime offensive additions, a closer who can consistently come in and close the door is a MUST!
As for Young.. well, I said my peace time and again on the kid... He needs to be moved - now... Or else...

Starting pitching should be okay next year. Webb, Haren, Scherzer, Davis and maybe RJ is a good rotation. I also think Matt Torra will be given a shot during spring training.

For the bullpen, re-sign Cruz and let him be the closer. Let Lyon go. I think Daniel Schlereth will make the team and could be the lefty specialist, or even the setup man.

Try and somehow persuade Byrnes to accept a trade. Also, they can't have both Dunn and Reynolds in the line-up, so they must decide on which one to keep. It would be nice if Hudson decides to stay but I am not getting my hopes up.

EDIT: VV You do realize Chase has a very large outfield with a tricky overhang, right? CY is worth his weight just in defense. He's still young, he'll be fine offensively, patience is a virtue and all of that.

Maybe... certainly would make for a great story... I can't get into this debate again however... He's simply a terrific trap player for the D-backs right now. And not what you need from your everyday centerfielder...
Who knows, maybe one day he'll put it together and get his average and OBP's up to more respectable levels... How long that takes is anyone's guess...

I like Tracy but he isn't that good of a player. He struggles badly against left handed pitching, doesn't have much power (career 103 OPS+) nor does he off-set it by being a high on base guy and due to his athletic ability (or lack there of) as well as his knees he is confined to playing 1B and isn't anything to talk about defensively.

Not just the prospect of Young finding himself and turning into a good offensive player but what about the fact that they would be selling him when his value it at its lowest?

What team would give up a quality 2B or a potential closer for a struggling Chris Young when it is more difficult to find quality players at the 2B and closer positions?

Since the All Star Break Young is hitting .278 with an .841 OPS

True, but we have already gutted our farm system with the trades for Haren, Dunn and Rauch and that besides Parker and Parra I just don't think we have enough to interest a team into giving up a quality 2B. On top of that I can't seem to think of any good young 2B that could possibly be available.

I, too, like Tracy, but he doesn't have the power needed from a corner infielder. He isn't feared at the plate and therefore doesn't help the guy hitting in front of him get good pitches.

If he were a 2B or SS, he'd be fine. But not as a 1B. Or 3B, which he can't play anymore.

He's an old young guy.

2) If CY is traded for whatever, who plays CF? Byrnes?

3) CQ turned into a "stud" because as has been proven time and time again, minor league production correlates with major league production. When teams or fans don't pay enough attention to this stuff you get surprised and end up looking foolish more often than not.

4) CY will never be a "5 tool player", but the tools he does bring should begin to develop enough to make him worth keeping around.

5) CT is the real "trap player". Just good enough to be a MLB starter but not good enough to add anything to a team.

6) 2B should be a priority, Mark Ellis.

Get rid of Tracy, Rausch, Lyon, Burke. Try and resign Dunn or another legitimate big bat, try and find a solid closer and shore up the bull pen. How many more games would we have won if the stupid ass bullpin didn't give up so many leads, I mean we would have to be in first place by a mile, unlike last year the bullpen has been terrible and thats why we are where we are!

1) Re-do Webb's deal to where he's more or less a Diamondback for the rest of his career.

2) Re-sign Dunn. He gives them a bonafide middle of the lineup hitter that they've lacked for awhile. Having him in the lineup as the 4 hitter gives them matchup troubles, where the 3 and 5 hitters will get more pitches because of it.

3) Find a legitimate leadoff hitter. Whether that be via trade (Chone Figgins perhaps?) or free agency, this move is one that IMO has to be done. They need someone to set the table for the middle of the lineup.

4) Work on fixing the bullpen. No, I'm not saying go out and blow the bank on Francisco Rodriguez or gut the farm for an available closer. In fact, I'm probably of the minority, but I think Tony Pena can be as good of a closer as anyone they're going to logically be able to get. However, I think it's imperative that they look at upgrading the MR and LR core. I'm of the belief that if the MR core does it's job, closers are replacable.
