I was reading Paul Coro's article at azcentral dated 9-22-10 about Jason Richardson. See link and comments below. Really nothing new but he should really be an asset for the Suns. Not only will Jason be an asset playing out the last year of his contract as a player (lots of incentive), he may have value for his expiring contract but better yet, what if the Suns could sign him to an extended contract at a reasonable amount of money. He would even have more value whatever the Suns decide to do. He will be only 30 in January.

Jason Richardson and the Suns need the same thing - a big season from him. Phoenix needs his scoring with Amar'e Stoudemire gone, and Richardson needs to play well and win to set up his next contract. He will be paid $14.4 million this season and said there has been preliminary talks about an extension that could keep him from becoming a free agent next summer.

"I feel like I'm going to college," Richardson said. "I've got to pick a decision. It's going to be fun. I'm not even worried about it. What happens, happens. If I get an extension here, I would love to be here and maybe finish my career here. It's a business. You never know. There's no pressure on me to go out and perform just because it's my contract year. I'm always a firm believer that if you work hard, things will come out your way."

no pressure to go out and perform?
really?

Taken in context it's more like:

"There's no pressure on me to go out and perform just because it's my contract year."

I think he's just saying that the contract isn't what motivates him. I respect that.

I totally agree. I've always known JRich to play hard so there is really no reason he has to do anything different. It's not like he has been coasting and now has to switch it to a different gear like some players in a contract year.
