That's a very valid opinion and I can't disagree. Let's get this thread back on track before we get too off track and get this thread closed too...

I thought/hoped Washington would have a breakout/borderline Pro Bowl type season and so far as good!! I thought Lenon also played pretty well, but don't recall seeing/hearing much about Stewart Bradley all day. Was hoping we would see more out of Bradley (I'm sure he's still learning the system/scheme, but everyone had to learn Horton's new scheme - so I think that argument only goes so far).

I agree, gmabel...did Bradley even play on the defense? Very strange...5 years $30M to be a sideline fan, a la Deuce today.

I never saw him out there and fully expected him to be in some packages.

Daryl Washington will be the level on Patrick Willis soon enough...I think he's already much more talented than Dansby but lets see if he can consistently play like this.

Sorry man but any time you single out a member of our board in a less than flattering way---it is a personal attack. I recently made that mistake in a general way (calling out people as excuse makers) myself. Chris rightfully closed my thread because of it. There is no need. You are a very good man for trying to mitigate/re-qualify your remarks. And you are a very good poster---keep it up!

No. No way. It is NOT a personal attack when you call someone on it...when they have been stubbornly, constantly been certain about something, in the face of contrary evidence, and they are then proven wrong. It is called facing the music, Mitch.

This. I don't think there are any linebackers in the league that are as quick as he is. A linebacker who can make cuts to make people miss? Not even Patrick Willis can do that.

He played a fantastic game and was our best defensive player by far. Don't know how much more there is to say. :D

How about let's hope our defense can play a little better next week so we don't need an 89 yard punt return to beat the worst team in the NFL from the year before that was starting a rookie QB and let them drive from their 17 to our 11 with only 2:20 left and have to make a great stop at our 6 to save the game. I had visions of Vince Young.....

Face it. Our defense, outside our Dline, is weak. As usual. But our offense is back on track. With our success on special teams we'll be competitive.

My quote was in response to Shane's post that DWash = stud, and was not meant to speak to how craptacular several other members of our defense played.

Face it. As long as Daryl Washington keeps playing like he did tonight, he's not part of the problem. And you didn't say anything about DWash specifically in your post, so clearly there was nothing left to say on the topic! :D

First off great game by Washington. He played with much more speed than we say last year which is due to his comfort level in knowing the defense. His knowledge of our system gets me most excited because I knew he had athletic talent.

Secondly, please stop comparing Washington to Dansby and Willis because he just isn't there yet. I know that he flashed today, but when he does it over the course of several seasons then that it is the time to anoint him. To state that he is on the level of those other two is to state that you haven't extensively watched Dansby or Willis play.

I'm right in line with what Chopper is saying. Daryl Washington had a hell of a game today and made plays in ways that he wasn't last year (except for fumbling an INT return--that's apparently his calling card :D).

But the thread goes crazy when the comparison above gets made. Daryl Washington isn't close to the class of either of these guys. He's a good young player who had a fantastic game. Let's hope he can string a few of them together.

Dude your wayyyy off. He is better then Dansby right now. I live in Miami and I hear about Karlis every day. He's a cover LB. Whoop dee damn doo. Washington is a PLAYMAKER. He had more big plays today then Dansby did the entire 2009 season. That's a fact look it up. I wouldn't trade Washington for Karlos straight up and I'm don't think the Cards would either.

Patrick Willis? That's laughable and more importantly they are two different players.

But Dansby? Lol we still talking about this guy? He made a Pro Bowl yet?

kid was a BEAST today.

Here's what i don't get about "ha, he's gonna be better than Dansby!" Uh... we run a 3-4 D... and he's the only LBer who looks like he belongs on the field. Shouldn't this more be about "how great would BOTH of them be?" That what makes the Steelers D the last ten years so damn nasty.

He ain't making me miss Dansby because every other LBer still sucks out loud.

And how bad must Stewart be? He didn't sniff the field... even AFTER Washington went out. Was anyone else stunned by that?

I did notice that and it surprised me. But I need to rewatch the game. In the highlights I saw that Bradley was on the field during the GL stand that Newton scored on the dive. Will be interesting. I forgot his # changed too.

Timmons is the better Daryl comparison if you are going off their style of play, both appear to be very versatile and have a solid all around game. Daryl Will never be Willis. Willis is a specimen of a man that sheds blockers like they are toddlers and punishes you all game long. Daryl will more than likely not have the Patrick Willis build that will allow him to do that, but that by no means implies he won't be a damn good LBer.

And I thought I saw Bradley on the field really early on, but I am not sure. People need to remember he is still learning not only an entirely new defensive playbook but an all new style of defense. It will take time, but I am not overly worried. Daryl and Paris held their own today. Bradley will make his impact soon enough, just takes time. We didn't give him that contract to sit on the bench all year.

This board has already decided that Pro Bowls are meaningless. Either way, Washington has a ways to go to be in Dansby's class when comparing their performance as a Cardinal. It irrelevant what KD has done in Miami. They may have him playing a different role. In Arizona, Dansby was the best player on the defense 3 years running.

Vontaze Burfict to the Cards?

That's the only guy (outside of a young Ray Lewis) who compares to Patrick Willis.

Washington is going to have a great year in this system. He seems to really understand the defense, and if Dumpster Dan can keep blockers off him he's going to tear it up.

Yup! Daryl had a whale of a game. But it is just ONE game. Danby strung several years of excellent linebacker play together.
