Ranked as PFF's #2 cornerback in the league. Not sure where PP is ranked but I think it's around 4.

I can watch this all day. Amazing how quickly he reads the play as soon as the ball is snapped and the QB turns his head.. you can see PP start to backpedal but HB doesn't get fooled even for a second.

You could tell on that play that HB's man in coverage was Jackson. Once he moved backwards, he knew exactly what the play was.

Great instincts.

My favorite part of that play, is HB lowering his shoulder to deliver a hard, but clean hit. He could've blown Jackson up with his helmet, or gone helmet to helmet, or worse, but didn't. HB knows how to play the game the right way and still make an impact!

I think he understand that because of his size, proper technique is the only way to stay healthy and to play longer. Look at Mike Brown from the Bears. That guy would blow players up and was only an inch taller than HB. Brown missed nearly three season in a 4 year stretch.

Truthfully, I doubt little he goes onto the field thinking he must tackle right to save his health and career...he goes on the field and tackles the way he does because it works :)

yeah he jukes riley cooper out of his jock, and in the second video where he comes in from the left to clean up the quarterback sack he blows up the eagles player trying to block him
i don't know which philly player it is but based on where he's lined up i am assuming he's a tight end and HB probably gives up 40 or so pounds on him but honey badger don't care

barring injury i think the kid is a future hall of famer

To use a football term, Mathieu just fires his gun faster than everyone else on the field. It isn't that he just sees it faster, he reacts as soon as he sees it without hesitation. Impressive player.

Both of those plays were flat out AMAZING. Too bad he didn't get in on that sack after absolutely shucking the TE like a fly in his eye. The sheer perfection of leverage on that play, combined with the lightning quick read and textbook tackling on the one in the video above were not only highlights, but the reason that HB is getting the type of respect he's getting. He's a ridiculously instinctual player, nonstop motor and makes great decisions very, very, VERY quickly. Understands leverage perfectly, and his size is in no way a detriment. It only makes him that much more impressive.

Yep, perfectly stated. He sees it, processes it and is already reacting to it in the time most other players are seeing it. He has absolutely no hesitation, completely trusts his instinct, and most of the time he's dead on.

And damn it, I just LOVE the way he simply stands up after lighting Djax up. "All in a day's work, fellas." Lunchpail.

Like probably everyone I watched the video about 50 times. If you watch D Wash, he reacts instantly to the play also by cutting on a dime and sprinting towards the action. He wasn't involved in it, but I noticed how quickly he reacts. He's good too btw.

What's nice is that he doesn't sprint towards the action (and end up overpursuing it) but rather to where the action WILL be if HB doesn't make the tackle, effectively stopping the play for no gain as a second line of defense.

This defense is fun to watch, because they are working well together, playing their spots and not trying to do too much...because of that, they are stout and end up making a lot of great plays. Lots of trust on that unit.

What a difference Horton, and now Bowles, have made in the Cards defense.

They've improved almost a full yard in net yards per attempt both rushing and passing from 2010 going from 26th in NYA passing and 20th in avg yards per carry to 5th and 2nd and from 30th in points allowed to 8th.

Agreed. Both guys had a part in changing the defensive culture in Arizona. PLayers still have to execute, but the overall defensive mindset seems to have changed.
