By now every year we get reports. Someone out there go to this afternoon practice? I'm hungry.

I was there.. found it fairly uneventful overall. No apparent injuries, which is always the main thing. John Brown stuck out in a good way (though I noticed Arians lit him up after a play late in practice) and Logan Thomas stood out in a negative way, dude clearly has a howitzer of an arm, but just doesn't look ready. Missed a lot of throws and fumbled a snap. Defensive backs made some nice plays as well (several of the top corners). I really wasn't doing a ton of scouting per say, just hanging out. I can never get a good read on linemen and pass rushers at these things. Palmer looked fine, as did most of the big names.

Just noticed that Urban has a blog entry up that is a good summary and does touch and expand on some of my summary points.Thomas did have a huge pass to Powell (which Powell made a good grab on) that was the biggest play of the afternoon, but overall saw more bad than good out of him.

Are they still out on the Warner facility this time of year, or are they at UOP now?

B/t/w, Revenge of the Birds has a nice take on Day One, titled 15 takeaways from practice. I believe pads go on, on Monday, and that's when the hitting starts. Right now it's all QB's, WR's, and CB's who standout. Or don't.

Logon Thomas took most of the third team snaps, and was as advertised. A talented QB who requires a LOT of work. At least a year away, and hopefully will progress along the way.

For me the worst news coming out of the first day, was PF starting as the RG. If that doesn't change, I don't foresee a BIG improvement in the OL, since you're only as strong as your weakest link. Anyone else feel the same?

Two questions, both are eye tests:

1. Does Logan Thomas look as big for a QB as the hype suggested, aka did he stand out physically?

2. Did you get a look at Troy Niklas ? Supposedly, he is a big man for a TE.

Here's a link to Urban summary

http://blog.azcardinals.com/

Sounds like the receivers will have to be ready when LT is at QB

– Thomas had his moments, good and bad, as has been his reputation. In one early drill with no defense, rookie tight end Troy Niklas didn’t get his head around on a Thomas bullet and the pass slammed against the side of Niklas’ head. On this first day, Thomas got almost all of the third-team reps as Ryan Lindley did a lot of watching.

Logan sure looks the part and has all the physical tools. But man he has every bit left to go to develop into an NFL QB as advertised.

Nikklas also looks the part. I didn't know his number, but he was out in passing formation and I thought "Man 87 sure looks the part" and then I looked it up on the roster and it made sense. I recall Carlson and Ballard making more plays in the passing game.

Yeah Nikklas has a soft cast on which hurt him quite abit trying to catch the ball.

My fearless prediction is that Nikklas will be the best player we took from this draft and five years from now he will be a Cardinals mainstay. I wanted a TE from this draft and I kept coming back to his tape as the best of the class as far as what Arians was looking for in a TE. He absolutely demolishes people in the run game. IMO he's the best blocking draft pick this team has had outside of Jonathan Cooper in a long time.

Floyd doesnt get the credit he deserves in that space either. Between the revamped Oline, Floyd, and Niklas we are gonna cram the ball down peoples throats....

I disagree with this. If you look at the draft class, both John Brown and Kareem Martin have the highest potential ceilings due to their positions and Deone Bucannon probably has the edge as well. Our draft class will have to really suck for a blocking TE (albeit one with pass catching potential) to be the best player to come out of it. I think Nikklas can be an asset to our team and be a good player in the future, but his limited receiving potential really limits his ceiling as a player. He is not Gronk in terms of pass catching ability IMO.

I'm not really weighing in one way or another on this, and at the risk of sounding like I have no imagination or moral courage, what a tremendous waste it would be to spend second-round picks in successive years on a two-down linebacker and a blocking tight end.

Baby Gronk Watch. You are underselling him as a pass catcher. Only been playing the position for 2 years. I think he is going to mature into a Top 5-10 guy at TE.

But I think John Brown is going to be the best draft pick. Guys who come in like this tend to resonate and make a mark. Sometimes HOF type marks. Reminds me of that Boldin Training Camp Thread from back in the Day.

+1. Nikklas could be a dominate blocker and catch 60 passes and 5 TDs a year in a crucial role (seam buster/relief valve) in this offense. The film I watched of him from last year showed him crushing people. I watched quite a bit of him and Fiedorwicz, and the difference was startling. Fiedorwicz will be a poor man's Nikklas IMO.

Yeah I would say it was a bit of hyperbole saying that Nikklas will be our best player from this draft, but I think he's going to be really good. John Brown could be special; it's hard to find that speed receiver that can consistently put up big numbers. That really changes how defenses have to play you.

is it just me or does there seem to be a noticeable lack of camp chatter this year overall?
