He had a meh 2023 season and was hurt for most of 2024, but we desperately need CBs. Better than Asante Samuels Sr at this point.
I do not see CB as anywhere near a "desperate" need.
A guy like this is just to add experience, vet leadership,..and a fallback if some of the youth fails to develop

Same. In fact, CB might be one of our deepest rooms... (and it isn't even that deep to begin with)

Pff 2024 grades...
Overall 59.3 (131 of 223)
Run def 59.8 (135 of 223)
Coverage 58.6 (129 of 223)
Yeah, but he only played 4 games in 2024... prior to that he had better rankings and averaged 2 INTs per season.
At only 25, I think he is a good mix of "Vet" and "youth" that could stick for a long time here

Wouldn’t be my first choice but would provide leadership. Despite liking physical play he is not a good tackler. He’s not a true ballhawk either. He’s fairly decent in coverage. I suspect he’d be overpriced.

Not sure about this one.. Do not see the big need. Do not really see what extra he brings to the table.

Adding veteran leadership to a young room perhaps. But if that is the case, that is also telling on SMB.

If added for his production alone, where is he on the depth chart? 3rd? 4th?

Definately behind Williams.

Melton had great games and bad games as a rookie. He has shown that he can play well at the NFL level, question is if he can do it at a consistent level. Have to assume that his development and added passrush will help him prove it.

Is he better that Thomas and SMB at this point? Probably. Where is Jones in this?

So adding him he would be 3rd or 4th and would push Clark out the roster.

Objectively, no issues. But at what cost?

I have no issue with this he is a 3 year starter with tons of experience and still very young. At minimum its depth and experience.
Oh, I agree with that. For me it's a cost vs. need thing.

He clearly didn't fit the new physical defense in LAC and got injured. If Gannon thinks he fits then obviously yes. Not going to question arguebly the best DB coach in the league.

He's the right age, and has shown potential. As we saw last year, even the healthiest players can get hurt and injury prone players can stay healthy. Sweat has had major knee issues his whole career that needs careful load management, and we still signed him.

I'm surprised about the apprehension from people here. Murphy-Bunting really doesn't have any business being a #1 CB, not even really a #2. Williams is good in the slot. I view Samuel as an upgrade.

I feel for Melton being demoted to #4 if this happens (if he can't beat out SMB), and don't love Elijah Jones basically being considered a wasted pick at that point, but we have an out on Murphy-Bunting's contract in 2026 and he could be an easy cap casualty for us.
