Davis was PS last year though right? And Jones was IR. Neither was on the 53.

Johnson already kicked Kei'Trel off the roster. Who is Burke displacing? Elijah Jones is the next and has never played a snap as a 3rd round pick.
That is correct. Technically they are all on the roster now. The most likely spot for Burke next year IS the practice squad. Maybe getting rolled up at some point due to injuries.

Monti drafting CBs till he gets it right.

The rest of this draft and the UDFA, position really doesn't matter very much. Trying to get someone now with the idea that they are going to be on the 53 and significantly contribute would be desperate. If they actually are that good... Terrific!

But really at this point you should be thinking more long term. Try to get the talent pool improved for depth and future roster replacements. If Burke actually made the roster and did nothing but special teams the entire season that would be an excellent outcome.

I will simply copy in the text from my mock draft.

With the #115 pick the Arizona Cardinals select

Denzel Burke, cornerback, Ohio State

I think many people are too negative on Burke. Sure, he was humiliated in the first game against Oregon, but for the most part he was fine the rest of the season. He was awesome in both 2021 and 2023, so his biggest problem is obviously stability. I am banking on Gannon’s magic with cornerbacks here, and if he can raise Burke’s floor, he might have a true #1 on his team.

I am very confused about which CB’s the Cards like the most. Gannon has a long history with one type, but then Ossenfort draft Elijah Jones and bring in Asante Samuel for a visit – two outside cornerbacks that are very far from what Gannon have been working with for 12 years across five teams. But I take a guess and are going back to the type that he has always preferred.

By the way, Marvin Harrison can probably tell them a thing or two about how good Denzel Burke can be.

This is a very good pick just for the upside. He’s would’ve been a low first/ high 2nd round pick had he come out last year.
Hes as talented as any CB on the roster.
Freshman and junior years, he was as good as any CB around. Sophomore year played hurt and had a bad year.

This year was so-so. Was solid other than the first Oregon game.

Dollars to donuts that one or two will get hurt in training camp/preseason and go on IR. Depth, even marginal depth, is a good thing even if it is only on one side of the ball.

I think they try to trade Murphy-bunting, not sure if his salary makes that doable though.
I don't. The team doesn't know whether a combination of Melton and Johnson will be ready to go in week one, and thus, keeping the vet with a Super Bowl ring is solid insurance. (IMO)

Fans often underestimate the importance of experience.
