we can make the playoffs.
This division is going to be the last man standing. Seattle will come back to earth. The 49ers blew a lead to a team we clocked.

Today , we lost. We scraped and clawed but came up short. You lose games for reasons and they usually are different from game to game.

Today the offense let us down. The defense held our opponent to 20 pts. And had 6 pts. Taken off the board.

Let’s move on and beat Washington and we will be back to .500. Then bring on the niners. I really believe we are going to play a roll on who gets in the playoffs. One of those teams may just be us.

This is pretty much where I'm at. A win today and we would have felt like a team of destiny, but a loss isn't so damming.

Hopefully we'll have a great week of practice, get Beach back, and then run it up on Kliff and their rookie QB this Sunday.

Cardinals offense meet elite run d for the 1st time this season and couldn't respond. I don't think Lions have given up more than 80 yards rushing in game yet this season. Passing game with MHJ far from been at the level to beat the good teams when your bread and butter in run game taken away.

Outside of the somewhat alarming lack of chemistry between Kyler and Marv, what bothers me most about this team is their total lack of identity.

Last year at least they were a plucky team who ran the ball well and gave teams a better game than most expected.

This team… not sure what they are. Today’s game was about as mid a performance as I can possibly imagine. But maybe that’s just what this team is… a total mid 7 or 8 win team. Uninspiring, while not infuriating. Just kind of a big ball of meh.
I'm going to chalk it up to being a young team. So I think we all knew there would be some growing pains. So let's hope to see some improvement as the year goes on, and give us hope for next year. It's kinda what we do isn't it.

I don't know, I just think the team we saw today is the actual team we are...who knows, according to JG we'll have to wait until after next week to know who we are lol
I don’t think that is accurate. Detroit completely dictated everything in this game.

They ran on us at will, and they took our run game away.

We became one dimensional and easily defended. I don’t think most opponents can do that to us.

I’m still in the philipines , but will finally will be home with new family soon, just woke up to the box score showing 2-1 passing for the cards and 2- 1 running for the lions, in a 1 score game.

Reviewing the highlites don’t show the core of the game, was lost to run defense and lack of preparation in the preseason with MHJ , Wilson showed up as I predicted.

Our identity is unprepared coaching, poor foresight and insight, poor judgement and make poor decisions. Execution is off like a preseason game.

My point being season may be over or crippled before cards hit their stride, I think they would be much better against the lions in an 8th regular season game, then they were in a 3rd.

Hats off to the lions, they earned it.

The Cardinals looked like a young team who hasn’t learned how to handle situations where things aren’t easy. Hopefully they growth out of that.
They’re a team that isn’t good enough to compete with the best teams in the NFL. They’re as mediocre as it gets. No mental fortitude would’ve prevented them from getting gashed in the run game.

Plus, this team isn’t that young.

I hope Robinson is good at stopping the run when he gets off IR? Our rush defense killed us today. Having said this, dropped passes, getting ripped off on a pick 6 didn't help either & this is against a SB contender. Honestly, we should've beat Buffalo in week 1. I'm not getting discouraged yet, the loss sucks but this team fights & I really believe in this coaching staff, they'll get some things cleaned up. This was a very good Lions Defense we just faced guys.

The D held their own today however Kyler did not.
Not really. The Lions pounded us into paste, and by the time the D made stops, we were effed with field position. That said, they did get the INT to gift the offense and got screwed out of a pick 6, so they did more than can be expected of a bad unit.

Really disappointing game by the offense. Kyler was far from perfect but he wasn’t bad either- receiver core really played sub par, with MHJr at the forefront of that. Running game was pedestrian.

Also doesn’t help when the refs are playing for the other team
He started well but he played pretty bad for most of the game. He definitely came crashing down to earth.

I didn't see that good of a team today nor for 1/2 of game 1. This team doesn't know what it is, I agree.

At what point does a “great culture” need to start producing consistent wins? I really like JG and Monti, but reality is that we are 5-15 so far through 20 games of their regime. Does a 5-12 or 6-11 2024 season mean JG is on the hot seat going into 2025? I watch the Cardinal games on TV and it is so painfully obvious to see when the team is really fired up (Rams game) vs games like yesterday. The sideline shots before yesterday’s game just showed a team who looked kind of hungover from their big win the week before. Instead of being pissed off that Lions fans are taking over your stadium, they seemed ho-hum about it.

It is so weird how in NFL the prior week's result seems to have such a big impact on the current week's game.

Generally we always want to play a team coming off a win, and never play a team coming off a loss.

I thought the main cause for loss was pretty simple. Murray had a bad game. Every QB has them during the course of the year. He missed open receivers. He hurried throws. He didn’t use progressions. The Cards coaches also didn’t have their best game. Still they only lost by 1 TD to a likely playoff team. The defense played as well as their talent level allows. The offense didn’t. This is a team that will lose more often than win when they face this level of opponent. They lack a dominant run game against a quality veteran line. They lack a dominant pass rusher and a strong anchor DT. They will be improved when they get Robinson back. Beware thinking they will automatically win games against lesser opponents. They likely will lack consistency. With a good off-season, next year could make them a serious playoff contender.

rallis should've started the game that aggressive - goff picked us apart unabated

petzing wastes plays like a fraternity does plastic red cups - 3 points in the second quarter - none in the third and 3 points in the fourth quarter - with this offense - and it wasn't due to pressure from right tackle - kyler had all the time in the world - more progressions than 1980s metallica

i'm more concerned with the o-line's ability in the run game - another braggadocios flex we clearly overestimated - and what the hell happened to the home field advantage
Happens every time one of those old-school teams becomes good again, and the mass amount of bandwagon transplant fans from that state starts to come out. Been watching and going to Cardinals games since the 90s, when the Lions sucked, there was maybe a handful of them at our stadium, but now they are good, you see blue jerseys everywhere. When they fade back into sub mediocrity again only their handful of loyal fans will remain like usual.

Just to pick nits...I said they looked like a young team, not that they are a young team.

I guess maybe for an Overreaction thread this works.

However reality shows that the adjustments that were made at halftime by Rallis limited the Lions to Zero points in the second half and limited them to 135 yards of total offense:

3rd Qtr

Lions Punt (Total Drive of 22 yards)

Lions INT (Total Drive of -7 yards)

Lions Turnover on Downs (Total Drive 44 yards)

4th Qtr

Lions Punt (Total Drive of 19 yards)

Lions Punt (Total Drive of 2 yards)

Lions Punt (Total Drive 25 yards)

Lions Run out Clock (Total Drive 30 yards)
