But they also could still keep him for cheap. Decent chance he’ll be in our long-term plans. Za’Darius, at age 32, clearly will not be. If Keim was still the GM, I bet he would have absolutely made this move.

I don’t mind Monti staying true to his under 30 rule, especially when it comes to EDGE players. Imagine if we would have traded draft capital for Matt Judon? There would have been initial excitement only to see he’s completely washed.
Yeah. This dude is a replacement for/successor to Gardeck. We hopefully won't be eligible for any comp picks next year, but this guy can absolutely be had on a Collins-style extension right now and provide good competition for Beej next year and a solid complement to the prospect we draft in the first or second round next year.

I would rather have the 26 year old who has showed at least some big potential over the 32 year old whose best days are most likely behind him. We did the latter a lot with the last regime & suffered from it.

Yeah. The Lions are just in a different place than we are. If they get two years from Smith they're gonna be happy. I dunno about "some big potential" really, but I get where you're going.

Smith is too young for Keim. Steve would trade for him, if he were 36+.

FWIW, I can't stand the term "flashed". This is the NFL, every one has flashed. Can you impact the game? That's the question. I'm hoping a change of scenery and a chance to shine with us turns the light on for this dude.

Nice, this post "flashed" for me!

Why? Glad you get your giggles in having a crap owner.

Bidwill has proven like his father that he's not a good owner. He SHOULD sell the team, but he's hit the lottery and gets to lord over something he doesn't deserve while not even trying to compete. Hilarious stuff.
The family has owned the team since 1933. It would be like getting the Duttons to sell the Yellowstone Ranch. It's their family identity.

Their continued ownership is a curse to all of us Cardinals fans.

I doubt Mikey really cares about what the "little people" think. But maybe continually getting his face kicked in on social media and in the press will make him change some.

And he still from time to time has to go face his fellow owners, and it's not like he has the past success to have earned their respect. The respect of his peers. So maybe he'll straighten up.

But when I read what I just wrote it sounds mostly like wishful thinking.

I just want him to stay the F away from Monti. I don't want all of Mikey's negative character traits contaminating our GM, who I really think is giving it everything he's got.

We have 31 other teams to choose from.

But dammit most of us can't change Ron. I love the Cardinals with all my heart and no matter how much they beat on me, nothing in the universe will ever, ever, ever change that.

It's just really sad and effing disgusting. I feel sorry for myself. lol..

Not sure what people are bitching about?? I’ve been a fan for 60 years & have never been more excited about the future of this franchise. We have a very good QB, we have an up and coming STUD HC, and although it’s early, we have an outstanding young GM. Stay the course. DRAFT & DEVELOP!!!!

Side note: I once found an old county map showing the land my high school is on was once owned by Baron von Stuben. How we were not called the Barons is beyond me!
Wow THE Baron von Stuben? Author of the blue book, and the father of the United States Army as a professional organization.

Browning, while younger, is a UFA this offseason. Say the Cards get some production out of him: the team may still lose him.

Smith is signed through 2025 (at a cheap $1.4mm per year in salary).

This team has a chance to win its division and/or make the playoffs. The 49ers arent going to lose key offensive starters for long stretches of the season every season.

It feels like Monti is so committed to his process (players under 30, keep draft capital) that he is passing on an opportunity.
Cards and Lions at two different trajectories. Not sure it is apple to apple. Monti was never giving up two draft picks.

I'm seeing that this guy has a much higher pressure rating than Azeez Ojulari did on a similar number of snaps. I think Azeez's sacks come from other guys on the Giants DL drawing double teams.

But yes, I would have liked to have traded for more than just a high potential lottery ticket, and I would still like to sign Azeez in the offseason.

My prediction is that Browning plays less than we think. He's not going to be THE guy, just A guy.

I think he will mainly be a situational rusher, predominantly on 3rd down. 45% snaps kind of player.

Partly because of his skill set, but also because I don't think our scheme is easy for someone to pick up mid season. Rallis asks a lot from his Edge guys in different coverages and run schemes.

Basically he'll be Gardeck. I don't think we gained anything over where we were 3 games ago, we just replaced Gardecks loss.
I think he starts out as a situational rusher. I think his role expands if he can stay healthy. This guy is a premier athlete. You don’t get to grab one of those every day, especially this cheaply. Historically he’s been decent in containing the run as well with some exposure to coverage. I think the Cards will try to keep it simple for him and build skill piece by piece. This likely won’t be a high impact immediate add, but he’ll be affordable to re-sign if he makes progress. The cost was low for a guy with his upside if he finds a role. As well as the Cards have done this season refining players I wouldn’t be shocked if he turns out to be a better than expected addition. Ossenfort continues to take low risk chances where the odds favor his long term plan.

For fun tried to look up the pass-rushing grades for most of the players we are discussing here. Browning scores very nicely compared.
