Agree. You can't overpay and have to let them walk at some point. You have to trust the young guys will step into the leadership roles.

Buddha might not, but Budda might. Probably will take a standard 3 year deal, that the team can get out of after 2 years, though. I wouldn't be opposed to that at all and can't really see why anyone would. Same with Conner. I think James can and will be resigned...and will be the lead back again next year, but in 2026, as long as Benson is still developing, the roles for the 2 of them will flip flop, making Trey the lead and Conner the #2. It's really the best thing for James and will allow him to play longer at an effective rate.

We can speculate but I’m not thinking about that right now. Just like I don’t believe in speculating MVP, Coach of the Year and such 10 weeks into the season.
This league is so goofy, and god forbid, we could all be crying in our beer in 4 weeks.

Is there a world where we bring him back? Him leaving after this season has seemed like a foregone conclusion, but with the way he’s playing, I’d hate to see him go. Signing older guys at non premium positions may not me Monti’s style, but I say bring back Budda & Connor. These guys are the leaders.

The only way I saw Budda leaving was if he was stuck on another crappy team this year. All he wants to do is win and if the Cardinals were struggling I could see him moving on to a better situation in FA. However, you can see that Budda is having fun out there and loves the way this Defense is balling out. At age 28 he is still in his prime. I think the Cardinals bring him back for another three years on a top 10 contract for safeties ($15-16M per year). Budda is the heart and soul of this defense and this team and he needs to be brought back.

I think Conner comes back on a two year deal that averages about $8-9M per season. There are no signs of Conner slowing down at this point in his career. Look at what Henry is doing at his age and they are similar types of RB.

I still think unless they sign short term team friendly contracts you let them walk. You just can’t give ground breaking contracts to 29 and 30 year old safeties and running backs. It’s just not a recipe for long term success

That's just not super smart thinking, IMO. You give him 3, with a 2 year out....and eventually swap him with Benson as starter/backup. He can be productive a few more years, for sure.

The Cardinals have a horrible history in games after the bye week. Including last year when SF romped all over us for 45 points in our stadium. Which we followed up by being dunked on by a bad Bears team.

If this year is TRULY different then we win in Seattle. Or, at the very least, force Seattle to play their best game of the season.

I was very disappointed when he made the team and was VERY wrong. I don't think I was alone thinking our oline depth was a major concern. I think our gm and coaches know better than us the talent level of this team.

Gannon said the bye week schedule is a little different for each player. There won’t be practices or group meetings, but guys will likely keep lifting/running. His message? Get rest but “don’t detach from the game.”
