Talk about recruiting early. ASU offers a scholarship to an 8th grader and the recruiting service is run by former Cardinals GM Steve Keim.

Found this list...

Not many 4-stars on that list, but I'm sure Dillingham and Co. will be big in the portal, as usual. High school recruiting is so different these days, as signees can easily transfer out in a year or two, even before they develop. At any rate, Karpman seems to be especially high on the big TE from Orange County, A.J. Ia.

ASU is ranked #37 nationally.

I was wondering about the lack of Arizona players, but damn. AZ football talent is still thin. Only 4 players who are rated 4 stars nationally, none of whom are staying in state. Four to the Big Ten (W,O and Wisconsin) and one to SEC (A&M).

No wonder almost all the focus is on TX and CA. Not that we are racking up many4 star guys from those states but at least you know the 3 star players there have much deeper competition.

Meh, it's not really as interesting as it used to be. In two years half of them will be gone and you don't know who

The transfer portal has really thrown a monkey wrench into college football, however, I'm not worried about recruiting too much since Dillingham has laid the foundation. He will now be building on it.

Kenny is a player's coach, which should be a recipe for success. Also, I think he maximizes the talent given. However, If I were a local player, I'd want to stay home and play for the Sun Devils.

You would think. Maybe the next class is where ASU turns it around in state.

Here is ESPN rankings. Only 4 four of the top 20 stayed in state, 3 for au and the ASU kid is #19.

It takes time to make recruiting inroads. Many will wish they had stayed.

Besides, we only want kids who want to be Sun Devils.

Agree that it's not as interesting or important as it was pre-NIL, pre-transfer portal, when everything was focused on that February signing date. But for me, one thing that really popped out on ESPN's data was the huge chasm for elite HS players between the big powers and everyone else. Of the top ESPN 300 recruits as of yesterday, a whopping 15 are committed (or signed) with Georgia which had the highest rated class. And Oregon, Texas, and Alabama had 16, 17, and 15 respectively.

I will be very interested to see whether the House vs. NCAA settlement allows for the playing field to be leveled a bit, in terms of paying players.

I think it has already. Four and five star players at these powerhouse schools leave. There are already major entries into the transfer portal for next season. Parity seems to be on it's way. Look at schools like Vanderbilt, and ASU, to see how things are changing.

Currently, for better or worse, I really think the portal is where programs like ASU will find the best possibilities to upgrade. They can grab guys who went to top schools and it didn’t work out but their talent level is high whereas if they take in a HS kid and really coach him up, the tendency will be for that player to seek better competition. That is how, I think, programs like ASU will continue to lose players

I believe the field will be leveled with regard to pay but NIL will still exist above and beyond that as I understand it. So will it truly be leveled? And who is monitoring that and will they have any power to really punish violators? And there will be violators.

The cap under the House (who of course was an ASU swimmer) settlement will exclude third-party NIL, and so the field won't be completely leveled. But supposedly the third-party NIL will be controlled such that the payments are at fair value for the "name image and likeness," and not simply remuneration for play or an inducement to attend a school. And so hopefully the gap will at least be narrowed. Deloitte, the big accounting firm, will operate the enforcement clearinghouse, based on what I've read. Not sure if ASU has published anything but Clemson put out a fairly readable summary. https://clemsontigers.com/faq-nil-house-revenue/
