I have to believe this will lift ASU into the bye. There's no way they can give it to either Clemson or SMU.
There’s literally no way they can give it to SMU, but they could still screw ASU and give it to Clemson. But that would be an absolute sham to give a 3 loss team who’s ranked below ASU that last bye.

ASU has a great chance of getting a bye.

I guess we don't know what bribes may be being passed around. But to give Clemson, or even worse, Penn St a Bye over ASU or Boise immediately makes the new format bullfeces.

I don’t think they can give Penn St, a bye. The first four with byes have to be conference champions… I think.

I don't see how any team that lost their final game could possibly get one of the byes. Nor should any three loss team. So that eliminates SMU, Penn State, Clemson, Texas, Ohio State.

I know it doesn't guarantee CFP won't pull some shenanigans, but just stating what the proper outcome should be.

Bye is only for conference championship. Notre Dame or Penn St as the 5 seed is going to be a real look.

Also Notre Dame has to figure if they are good with being a forever 5-10 seed. You want to play for a bye, join a conference

Yup. This tournament set up may finally force ND to change… or they’ll throw a buttload of money at the NCAA to somehow fix that “flaw” like they did the BCS.

I will say as a Methodist, I don't think Southern Methodist University has a chance against the U. Maybe I get proven wrong but I think SMU is out and Miami is in

They are probably fine with it since they can keep all the money they make from bowl games, merchandise, tv contract deals, etc

If they join a conference they have to share

The college football playoff has already made Conference Championship Day feel a little like the Madness.

Win and you’re in games for the Boise’s and ASU’s and Clemson pulling off getting in also.

Why it took college football so long to do this is one of sports greatest mysteries.

I'm not sure how Miami (ranked 12) would beat out Alabama (rank 11) without either of them playing a game. Alabama would be more likely

Truthfully neither should be in but I never doubt NCAA's stupidity.
