Gambo said it makes no sense to send these 3 picks to Miami for Butler considering that the Suns thought the 2031 was too much to ask for to get Butler. If you were going to send all 3 to Miami, you might as well have just sent the 2031.

It appears these 3 picks might be for multiple moves.

This is my thinking. Lots of moving pieces in this trade and they have used King's Solomon's wisdom in a reverse sort of way.

I so enjoy watching this stuff.

Maybe the Suns can divide their three first round picks again or turn them into a gazillion second round picks.

I don't think the NBA and their fans, including myself, were prepared for Mat Ishbia

Just give me the three first round picks to make other moves. I'm not locked into Jimmy Butler.

Sounds logical.

Or the Suns will keep at least one of these picks.

So if we acquire Butler; is it out of the realm of possibility that this is a final swing for the fences and if things continue to trend down next year, that Ishbia just jettisons all the stars to recoup and start over?

I don't think the word “failure” is in Ishbia's vocabulary.

What the Suns are doing is nothing short of magic. I can't wait to see what is behind the curtain.

This could be the framework of the trade if the Suns acquire Jimmy Butler.

I'm sure a lot of fans can conjure up better trades than Butler.
I just don't see it. When it was Butler for Beal and we were stuck with either/or it kinda made sense. But if Butler ends up somewhere else, I would have just moved him if that was the case. Butler feels like Beal, again.

How do you "jettison" them? Their contracts will all have negative value, especially once Butler is inevitably extended.

I don't think Ishbia dwells on the past. He keeps moving forward.

My guess is he is already planning for future moves down the road.
I would argue he doesn’t look to the future or the past only the present.

There is absolutely no planning beyond this season or he would not be making this move.

Also, KD. If you are extending one, you will the other. We are looking at second apron for a couple more years it seems.

Butler can play any position, from shooting guard to power forward. This is an exciting possibility.

Then, say the Suns attach a first round pick and trade Nurkic for a better center.

Suddenly, the Suns are a much stronger team, at least on paper. Also remember, expiring contracts will have value down the road.

No team has an open window forever.

* Trade Booker which should have good value
* Trade Durant which will get minimal returns given his age and extension needs
* Let Butler rot until his contract expires, which I guess is no worse than letting Beal rot until his contract expires

I don't think we can stretch/waive until the Nasir Little stretch/waive expires.

I guess from that aspect having Butler isn't materially worse than Beal, and possibly marginally better as there's no NTC to contend with.

Not only that but when we spectacularly fail and miss the playoffs anyway or get swept in the first round how does that not further degrade the value of our “stars”

Having butler is worse. He is 4 years older, and he is known to raise hell when he isn’t happy.
