Timberwolves @ Suns Wednesday game thread, 11-15-2023

I've been asking all along what was going to make this team better than the Durant/Irving Nets.

Thunder @ Suns Sunday game thread, 11-12-2023

I was enthusiastic about Vogel, and I still don't think he's high on the list of problems, but it's hard to tell.

Remember when I asked a couple of weeks ago whether he'd last until Christmas, and got laughed at?

Booker's good, but he isn't that good. The Suns' decade of misery is under way. Strap yourselves in, everyone.

OMG, really? This might be the worst fourth-quarter team in the league.

    Lakers @ Suns Friday game thread, 11-10-2023 - In-Season Tournament Game #1

I gave up after the first Spurs loss. Haven't watched since. It will take a lot for them to get me back on board.

"Trying to get to the line" is never a good strategy. The plan should always be to get a good shot first, and if they foul you, the line is the backup plan.

So the solution is to throw to receivers who are behind the line of scrimmage?

Well maybe they learned something from this game.

We know that Ishbia has money to burn and is trigger-happy. Does Vogel survive until Christmas? That's the only change the team can make.

The Spurs have outscored the Suns by 39 over the last four quarters.

Well it's both. First of all, we agree that it's unlikely that they'll be healthy. Then, even if they are healthy, it's a thin roster. The first four games have shown us that no one beyond the big three has any creative skills to speak of. To put it another way, if a soon-to-be-35-year-old...

    RIP: Walter Davis (1954-2023)

Dang, he had his demons, but he was a graceful offensive player and a joy to watch.

To me there's a pretty big gap between "could theoretically win the title if everything goes perfectly" and "contender." I put the Suns' chances at 5% max. That's a 50-and-fade team hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, not a contender.

    2023-24 Around the NBA Thread

Oh, not "certain doom," but they aren't contenders. We're back to 50-and-fade, for as long as the run can last.

I feel quite confident saying that the Suns will not lose to either Milwaukee or Boston in the playoffs. This team is a pretender and the only surprise is how quickly that became clear.

    Suns trade for Beal

He's still made more threes this season than Beal has.

Spurs @ Suns Tuesday game thread, 10-31-2023

I turned it off at halftime, saying, "If the Suns blow this, I don't want to see it." Even so, I was shocked to see the final score this morning.

Durant gave it his all, but he's past the point in his career where he can play 21 minutes in the second half and not run out of gas. The turnovers were due to fatigue more than anything else. Players other than Durant shot 20-53 (.377). Gordon is awful. He is 4-17 on threes so far this...

    AYTON TRADED!

Aren't there young guards who shoot well in college and take better care of the ball? I'm not saying Henderson can't improve or has no future, only that it's very unlikely he'll prove to be the best small guard taken in the last draft.

    AYTON TRADED!

All the more reason not to reach in the draft for players who have made their name against low-level competition.

    AYTON TRADED!

Henderson isn't good. I don't understand why he ended up going so high. In the G-league last year, he shot .429 overall and .275 from three-point range. His assist/turnover ratio is only 2.0. Small athletic guards who don't shoot well and aren't effective at PG rarely amount to much in the NBA.

    2023-24 Around the NBA Thread

He was nervous and/or overmatched, limited by foul trouble to 23 minutes. Offensively he was mainly reduced to long-distance catch-and-shoot opportunities (3-5 from three-point range). Defensively he was a little lost, but he has good instincts and recovers quickly. I'd say the debut was...
