Good on you, Stout! I am purely a history hobbyist (except the poetry, that I've studied formally). Oh, I know that historians now realize Richard was not an evil hunchback, and was in some ways a very progressive king, but the common/popular view still mainly follows Will's play. Have...

LOL -- OK, it's interesting to see some of the actual inaccuracies in the Oxfordian theory -- and he points out a few, although some he cites suggest a bit of knee-jerk reaction - like Richard the III -- he would have been chosen as a subject because there were (historically inaccurate!)...

Disclaimers: 1.) I am an avid student of pre-Restoration English history and nobility. 2.) I know English lit, especially poetry, very well. 3. I have leaned towards the Oxfordian theory of 'Shakespeare' for some time. 4) I love really well-done historical fiction, whether book or movie. OK...

    Wine, food near Chase Field?!

Very nice place, food was quite good, wine was a leetle chary on the pour, but an OK if limited selection. I would definitely go there again, and also am pleased to know of it since I'm often downtown at the Courthouses and wanted some lunch alternatives. Also just a quick stroll to the ballpark.

    Tall Tales of Paul Goldschmidt

Making adjustments is what it's about for a rookie. Suddenly you're playing on well-groomed diamonds, not the rough defense-crushing stuff of the minors. Suddenly you're seeing pitcher after pitcher who is better than the best you would have faced in the minors, and being watched and analyzed...

    Wine, food near Chase Field?!

Hanny's looks like a decent option in terms of food, time, and location, so we've opted for that. As always, thanks for the assist. Now, GO FOR IT D-Backs!

    Wine, food near Chase Field?!

Thought of that, but that may be pushing the combination of walking distance and 5 PM opening for a 6:30 game time, since I don't want to be late.

    Online banking

Take a look at CapitalOne banking - I opened a modest checking account just to have an international no foreign exchange fee debit card. So far, admittedly very limited experience, I've been pleased enough, and they have some high-interest savings and checking I am going to take advantage of...

    Wine, food near Chase Field?!

Going to the game Weds PM, assuming we hang on to this nice lead, and looking for someplace within walking distance open for a very late lunch or early supper - can be a longish walk if necessary -- where my friend and I can get a nice glass of wine and maybe a salad or pasta or something on...

    Kindle

Yeah, I thought the fire looked good too. I like the way Amazon just quietly percolates along doing its thing quite competently without the high drama of Google and Apple and the rest. I gather it has its own very tight, driven corporate culture, but it doesn't make a fuss. I got a 3G kindle...

    Tracy Chapman

To me, 'Fast Car' is one of the most beautiful tragic songs in modern music. Every single time I hear it, without fail it makes me gulp. Even if she had never done another recording, with that one song you could rest on your laurels.

Arizona displayed guts at another club crossroads

Nice. We've needed old school for a very long time.

    The Debt

Very well done, and fine acting all around -- but a grim and ultimately unsatisfying flick.

    Grimm (NBC)

I also have been sort of interested, Matt -- I grew up on the Brothers Grimm. I like the idea of fairy-tales having a foot in reality, but the cop aspect sounds sort of stick a fork in it.

Necessary Roughness (USA) - cheesebeef's latest

Outstanding!! I hope they rerun this season soon so I can catch the first few episodes I missed when I was away. Any idea when season 2 starts? I assume there's substantial lead time to prepare a whole season with story arcs laid out and all that? Yeah, Pariah, to my dismay as well, the...

Necessary Roughness (USA) - cheesebeef's latest

Excellent episode, cheese -- enjoyed it a lot. Any idea why the delay on the renewal by USA? (And why would they put off returning a new show like Suits for a YEAR?)

    Sade Concert

A friend took me to the Sade concert at US Airways Ctr tonight -- it was splendid! Apparently this is her first concert tour in a decade, having stayed home to raise her daughter. I always liked some of Sade's songs and have found her CDs on my playlist during idle time more often than I would...

Necessary Roughness (USA) - cheesebeef's latest

It was a good episode. (SPOILER) Awww... bummer about the love life thing, even though done rather nicely. The look on Dani's face was done perfectly, and nearly broke my heart. And since it seems pretty obvious you can't lock her up with Matt or Nico without closing down too many...

Necessary Roughness (USA) - cheesebeef's latest

OK, speaking as a female, I love JD. I really like the chemistry he has with Dani -- he's strong, male, and dominant but not dominating or overpowering. DO NOT **** HIM UP. If it doesn't work out with Dani, just don't make him into a bad guy or a loser, please. Admittedly, as a psychologist, he...

    Official Arizona Weather Thread

I'm not sure I grok this -- just looked at my (very unofficial) thermometer and it said 108 -- shortly before Noon. Now the porch gets a bit of sun along one side, but not on or directly under or even near the thermosensor this time of day. Hopefully I rescued my infant caper seedlings in the...

Necessary Roughness (USA) - cheesebeef's latest

OK, finally caught an episode -- very entertaining and intelligent, some really good characters, and as a psychologist, (one reason I've sort of put off watching) I appreciated at least the faint nod to keeping professional boundaries. Wish they were running some of the back episodes during...

    Salmon Patties

I haven't ever made salmon thingies, but have used both types in salads, long ago, and I prefer the foil packages flavor-wise. However, the canned is a little fishier-tasting, I think, and usually wetter, so that may be better for patties.

    The Sixth Sense

American Beauty blew me away emotionally -- I thought it was great -- but I never rewatched it. (Like 'Breaking the Waves' -- which I thought was an emotionally devastating movie and without question the best acting I have ever seen on film; bought a copy, but could never bring myself to rewatch...

    Food fun

I made mango sorbet last night in my new Cuisinart R21 ice cream maker -- Pretty darn good stuff, although a little denser than I was aiming for -- slightly too much fruit to syrup, possibly. Today I'm going to try a peach one since I have some dead ripe fruit, and then next is a rich...
