    MLB Steroid Melodrama

Can you imagine how boring the hearing would be if all they got were standard cliches, Canseco's shtick, or BaBo retreads? Congress wants some entertainment and knows that Curt is good with the soundbites; besides, they would have some photo-op chances with the big guy, a modern hero with...

    Horribly Depressing Realization...

Naw... Not Traber ... who is a real cut up when compared to Phelps. Have to figure that the radio execs wanted to avoid ANY hint of controversy, so they sought the most banal "color" guy available.

    Horribly Depressing Realization...

Hearing just a portion of their broadcast... and the innings that Kendrick came into the booth only to have Schulte gush all over him about all the "great" off-season moves and toss him "softball" after "softball" reminded me of Larry King ... only less entertaining and insightful. Ken...

    Spring Training Games

Not that one since I'm heading to Cubs game Friday... figure I can "max" on one early out of work per week. Going to back to back Sat. games at Peoria complex later in the month when Dbacks are there. Have to check schedule to see if there's another I can skip some work time for -- would be...

    Spring Training Games

Not sure about heading to Tucson this year, but I do have tix for 3 Dbacks games in the Phoenix area (only one that requires leaving work will be a week from Friday at the Cubs home field)... hoping they have the "right" Dbacks in for that one. (Also seeing Suns against Spurs next week, so...

Deal Reached to Expand Wrigley Field

Glad I've scheduled myself for two separate weekend trips to Wrigley (against Dbacks and Cards)... the place may not quite be the same next year. Of course many of us thought that lights would destroy the atmosphere.

D-Backs’ Clayton takes pride in playing defense

Definitely a beauty to behold... Perhaps we'll see a platooning of sorts, so Brandon gets the defensive infield when he's on the mound. That wouldn't matter so much with Ortiz (except for the hope of turning a double play to clear the bases he's gonna load up)

    BA: Quentin and Jackson

You could pass this on to Peter Gammons or Pedro Gomez... They're always looking for stories.

    Hairston switches to the outfield

Except the fact that the most plentiful prospect resources are in the outfield... Hairston has decent power that would look great at 2nd base but not cause much stir in the OF. Seems that the organization has soured on him (a number of refs in other threads), so expect that this once bright...

    There's a Bunt-ler in the house

They may have been "little" things, but when 5-10 of those "little" things blow up in your face during ONE game... odds are that you'll lose ;-)

    There's a Bunt-ler in the house

It's Spring Training time, and the article focuses on Dbacks players who appear teachable despite being veterans :-)

D-Backs notebook: Unit didn’t like last offer

That teary eyed Steinbrenner that you see in the locker room after his Yanks win the World Series is a totally different person when they fail to win the final prize... as Buster Olney reports in his book The Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty, Joe Torre pleaded with an obviously steamed...

    'Power Rankings' etc.

From the MLB site, MLB Extra Innings offers about 60 games per week. Just must observe local rules about blackouts, etc. So... if interested in baseball as a whole or one or more particular other teams besides the locals, appears to be worth looking into.

D-Backs notebook: Unit didn’t like last offer

Scary when thinking of his '99 stint with the Dbacks, but he did have a number of decent years with the Orioles early in his career... It could be a case where Olson can teach much better than perform. There's a number of coaches/managers that have succeeded much better in those roles than they...

    'Power Rankings' etc.

Online rankings of USA Today/Sports Weekly along with blurb NL Preview Somewhat surprised to see them ranking SD behind both SF and LA, but the NL West is pretty open with a myriad question marks. They also seem convinced that Carlos Delgado is going to bring the Marlins up a level or so...

Ortiz out to prove D-Backs spent well

At least they haven't put that on the recorded bi-weekly messages I find on my phone from the Dbacks ticket office begging for former season ticket holders to come back.

Ortiz out to prove D-Backs spent well

Writers also feed off quotes from managers, who are almost never going to outright say something negative about their players (unless their last name is "Bowa")

    Yankees clean boy image

Well, if he'll roam Times Square staring and shouting and ranting at the top of his lungs at no one in particular, then we'll know that he's blending in with the NYC homeless.

    Kata willing to work anywhere

All young players need to have the attitude that they are capable of being an everyday player, but Kata is likely to always be a utility guy.... playing everyday only if a team has injury problems or is especially weak at an infield slot.
