Thursday is the first official game - here's the starters:

Craig Counsell (2B), Royce Clayton (SS), Chad Tracy (1B), Jose Cruz Jr. (CF), Alex Cintron (3B), Luis Terrero (RF), Quinton McCracken (LF), Chris Snyder (C) and Russ Ortiz (P).

Now, I was planning on running down there Thursday - opening day after all - but who the heck wants to see McCracken or Terrero or Ortiz!? LOL. Gimme Vazquez, Jackson, and Carlos Quentin! and I wanted to see Glaus! He'll start Friday, with Webby.
I know starters only get a couple innings and then the tryouts and the kids come in, but now I'm torn - I especially was curious to see Glaus play. Unfortunately can't stay over since I'm going to the Suns Thursday night.

My wife and I got tickets for the 20th, hoping that we'd see the regulars by then.

Bob Melvin set an early schedule for Gonzo and Glaus -- some DH'ing, no back-to-back games in the field until he could evaluate them after surgery.

I guess we have to remember that Spring Training means preparing methodically for the season, rather than putting on the best show for the fans.

I'm glad to see that Bob Melvin is on top of it. I'm expecting that, come opening day, each player on the 25-man roster will know his role.

Not sure about heading to Tucson this year, but I do have tix for 3 Dbacks games in the Phoenix area (only one that requires leaving work will be a week from Friday at the Cubs home field)... hoping they have the "right" Dbacks in for that one. (Also seeing Suns against Spurs next week, so really looking forward to next week)

Gambo and Asher are interviewing Conor Jackson - nice-sounding guy, relaxed, very genuine. He's thrilled to be in ST, he'll play any position they can think up for him, loved Wally Backman, treasures OBP over other stats but considers walks incidental to discipline (walked today) - "I'm not much of a free swinger, and so far nobody's trying to change that - if I don't see a pitch I like, I just wait." Still expects to go to Tennessee to start the season and would be blown away to be in Triple-AAA; was a theatre major in college and that's his second love behind baseball. Said the 'sleeper prospects' not yet getting hyped are Jaime D'Antona and Marland Williams. (Smoke apparently laid down a perfect bunt today and was drinking iced tea on first base before anyone could even react to it.)

Hairston 'jacked a freaking BOMB' off Javy Vazquez today; Cintron got a HR also.

MG - are you going to the Oakland game Monday? I'm going to that one, Gnats on the 29th of course, and try to stick a couple others in as I can. But I love TEP and always try to pick up a game or two there.

Not that one since I'm heading to Cubs game Friday... figure I can "max" on one early out of work per week. Going to back to back Sat. games at Peoria complex later in the month when Dbacks are there. Have to check schedule to see if there's another I can skip some work time for -- would be nice to see future Dbacks kids

Yeah, I may have identified the lucky earrings and lucky color scheme for 2005. LOL. 9th inning win in baseball - BASEBALL!!! and last minute squeaker by the Suns. Sloppy games, but wins, and exciting. I have absolutely NO voice left.

An Arizona split-squad fell to the Rockies 9-5 in Tucson on Monday night. Eight walks and six errors hurt the cause, and the D-Backs left the bases loaded three times.

But today we beat an Oakland split squad 10-2. Webb started, looks (from what little I can see of the box score) that he did much better; Bruney got the win, so he must have looked better, too.
