    Boston looking at getting Pujols?

This rumor is based on nothing but fantasy and speculation.... nothing hard core here.

    Arod A Yankee!

A-Rod more than willingly played third base at the All-Star game to allow Cal Ripken to start the game there... symbolic perhaps... but A-Rod has often demonstrated a "team"mentality--the exorbitant Texas salary was an aberration that not even A-Rod anticipated until the Texas owner went berserk.

    So who is our closer?

D'backs aren't prepared to eat a lot of Mantei's salary just to trade him... and smart teams aren't willing to risk that kind of money on a guy with a history of injury problems. It's more likely that Mantei will go in a mid season trade to a contending team in dire need of a closer ... if...

Diamondbacks sign a couple of free agents and trade a catcher

Despite the "fun" it would be to poke fun of Jesse... retiring is a postive for both him and the D'backs!

Kim to sign for 10 million

Sox picked up Keith Foulke for that duty.

    Edgar Gonzalez

Maybe we could get a group of board posters together as a Spring Training project--a special "bat" day! ;)

    Maddox to sign with Cubs?

They tried dealing Mantei before they dealt Curt--no takers. Most owners aren't naive enough to take a $7 million closer with a long history of injury probs. Ain't gonna happen! At least not likely before the midsummer trade deadline.

OT: Online Chess playing D'backs fans?

Recently learned about a neat asynchronous game site from the regular MLB D'backs board, and a few D'backs fans have signed up. It has other games there, but most of us signed up due to Chess--and the D'backs fans vary in levels from novice to expert... The site is called "Its Your Turn"...

    Vladimir Guerrero

Not that shabby for the AL... and certainly much better than the retreads that the D'backs have picked up to pad the pitching staff.

If the most important thing to Rose is to get into the Hall of Fame....

Jayson Stark's take.... very "stark" for Rose EVER having a HOF placque now: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=1703439&partnersite=espn

Molitor And Eckersley Inducted Into H.O.F.

Those three definitely deserve to be in the Hall. Ryno was the dominant second baseman for a decade, combining both power hitting and great defense. Blyleven has longevity as one of the all time strike out pitchers, and Sutter was dominant closer during his years... developing the split finger...

Looks like Rose lied in his new book. What a surprise

Often said that the Rose case literally broke Giamatti's heart. The man loved baseball... and died shortly after ruling on Rose.

Looks like Rose lied in his new book. What a surprise

Also heard a clip on NPR radio with former commishioner Fay Vincent, who stated that Rose doesn't "come clean" in the book because he doesn't acknowledge the times he bet on baseball while he was playing with the Phillies (and baseball officials are aware of this)

    DBacks sign Roberto Alomar

The ONLY way to view this as a "good move" is to believe that the D'backs are serious about contending for a championship THIS year... and can afford to scatter a few million on the scrapheap, hoping to catch "lightening" in 2004. While the team's stated goals have been to get "younger and...

    DBacks sign Roberto Alomar

Another nonsensical move ... Joe Jr. playing craps with the owner investments now, like a kid in a casino with just so much $$ to spend before he's gotta leave. The D'backs are now beginning to make moves like a traditional first year expansion team, loading up with washed up vets that no one...

If only that described our teams!

Re: Re: Re: If only that described our teams! The haphazard daily lineups occurred during the 2001 season as well.... so you can NOT attribute "decline" solely due to the daily lineup changes.

If only that described our teams!

Much depends on the makeup of the team as well.... Ol' Case was SEVERELY criticized for his platooning (including harsh criticism from his players), but his Yanks of the 50's still did pretty well...

    Washed up pitchers

It sounds like Joe Jr. is operating without the blueprint.... Like he had a laundry list of "possible" needs with a certain amount of cash to spend and felt like he had to jump at the first items on the market to get his Christmas shopping outta the way. Being able to spend the allotted cash...

Horrible analogy. GM critiquing in the hot stove league is NOTHING like rocket science ... unless you're a real neophyte in the HSL--in that case you speak only for yourself.

    Washed up pitchers

NO We can NOT all agree on your premise since it is based on so many assumptions... not all of them sound. Veteran castoffs can be had at much cheaper prices if necessary. Joe Jr. seems like he's far too interested in getting his shopping done during the pre-Christmas period... thus...

DD released by New York Yankees

Despite being such a fan favorite, DD should be a very low priority for returning here. He's not going to develop into an everyday player for the D'backs, who now have two of the best pinch hitters in the game on the bench. D'backs are better off seeking a more substantial RFer and going with...

    Washed up pitchers

If the D'backs supplied the same kind of run support that Reynolds got from the Braves last season, then you could say that Elmer Dessens "dominated" the opposition... but that wouldn't make your statement true.
