Jersey Mike's sandwich chain is acquired by private equity firm Blackstone for $8 billion

I tried Jersey Mike's once or twice, and the whole "Mike's Way" business bugged the hell out of me. I tried Jimmy John's on a trip to Arkansas last year and was impressed.

Trail Blazers @ Suns Saturday game thread, November 2nd, 2024

I know we get frustrated with the Suns' drafting, but at least they aren't the Blazers: 1984, Bowie at #2 over Jordan 2007, Oden at #1 over Durant 2023, "Scoot" at #3 over anyone else

Ryan Dunn - the Real Deal or Beginner's Luck?

Actually his form was fine, and those misses were on line, just completely the wrong distance. I'm not surprised that was fixable. It's when the mechanics make it impossible to control the ball that you have real trouble.

Sounds like a good game, too bad I missed it!

Ryan Dunn - the Real Deal or Beginner's Luck?

They always say that, though. Edit: Watched the video, okay, probably legitimate this time.

Mavericks @ Suns Saturday game thread, October 26th, 2024

It's too bad I couldn't watch this game, because I'm curious whether I would have had the same reaction to Dunn. Doncic scored 40 points on 25 FGA and Dunn played only 21 minutes. If he had a huge impact on the game, it sure isn't evident in the box score.

I'm sympathetic to the idea, but no one is giving up much value for Durant, so it's really only Booker, and I don't think he brings back multiple lottery picks, which is what the Suns need.

So do you agree that giving Durant a two-year extension would be a very bad idea?

Suns @ Clippers Wednesday game thread, October 23rd, 2024: Season Opener

Durant made the biggest shot of the game at the end of regulation, but even so, he didn't look very good out there overall. A two-year extension, taking him to age 39, is really going to hurt. The Suns are mentally stronger than they were last year, and that paid off last night. But for all...

It's amazing to me that Melton has stuck around. He's a second-round pick who started with the Suns (came over from the Rockets in a draft-day trade) and didn't show anything in his one year in Phoenix. Statistically, he still doesn't do anything well, but somehow he's going to make $12.8...

    Suns 2024-2025 Season Discussions

You'd have to think that the Suns have better than a 3% chance of winning the title. I don't, but it doesn't look like a horrible bet to me. If it's going to add entertainment value for you, I'd say go for it.

    Suns sign Tyus Jones

No, no, no, please, for the love of God, no. That is an understatement. Extending him for anything close to the maximum would be the dumbest move in NBA history.

    RIP: Pete Rose (1941-2024)

True, but it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Merit. I never liked Rose, but his impact on the sport was immense. You can be interested in history while accepting that a lot of it was made by unappealing people.

Are we talking just swapping out Durant for Siakam right now? I think it definitely makes the Suns better. Durant is still a better player, but he's a poor fit on this team. Siakam would be better for chemistry, is healthier, fills more of a need, and would give this team the breathing room...

True, but the futility would be shorter-lived. Another point on which we disagree is how long the Suns are going to be paying the bill for the Durant trade. Once this last-ditch effort burns down, it will be a decade before the Suns are relevant again. With Markkanen, certainly not. With...

And Marion for O'Neal. Nash was only 30 when he rejoined the Suns, and Paul was 35, not 36. Even so, what strikes me about both of those moves is that neither was expected to make the Suns a contender. The goal for each trade was to get "good," not to get "great." Nash was brought in to help...

But again, you never know what opportunities to improve the roster might present themselves. Durant happened to be the star that was available when the Suns were desperate to make a move, but it could be a different star in a year or two. It's not true that the only options were the Durant...
