RIP "Original Sun" Dick Van Arsdale (1943-2024)

RIP... probably the most archetypal "Phoenix Sun."

    The NBA is broken.

Agree. The current "format" of basketball is terrible. I loathe the 3-pointer. The problem is 1) that it's not a challenging enough shot anymore as most players have increased their shooting range, and 2) there are no significant enough disincentives to shooting it even if you aren't making...

    Arizona State Basketball 2024-25

Is this the end of yet another annual Hurley team early season mirage? I guess we'll see.

I wonder if a Vucevic for Nurkic trade could work? It would be a slight salary savings for the Bulls, and Nurkic is five years younger, if not as good.

Bill Belichick agrees to become the head coach of UNC football team

Unless Tom Brady pulls a Rodney Dangerfield and can find some extra eligibility to follow Bill to UNC, it won't go well.

    2024-2025 Around the NBA Thread

To be honest, it seems like just about every couple years since Lebron, there's another guy the media (ESPN, mostly) tries to build up as the "next (or better)" Lebron. Just off the top of my head, I remember Oden, Ricky Rubio, Jabari Parker, A. Wiggins, R.J. Barrett, Marvin Bagley, Luka, Zion...

Where do we go from here?

Here is a pretty good breakdown of the potential of a Butler trade from the Suns perspective. https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/jimmy-butler-trade-rumors-suns-floated-as-possible-destination-and-theres-a-narrow-path-to-a-deal/

The Peach Bowl thread (CFP Quarterfinal) 1/1/2025 11AM AZ time

Could be an issue, but there was going to be a good sized gap of time off in any case. Granted, whoever they play will be coming off a prior week game, so that team won't be as rusty. That's more likely to present an issue, if at all.

XII Championship ASU v Iowa St Saturday 12/7 10a

If you asked me (or most anybody) which of the bye teams are least likely to advance based on eye test, I guarantee Boise would be by far the number one choice.

    CFP Selection Show

Absolutely that's what ESPiN is angling for. Also, they probably want a guarantee that Bama, Ohio State, UGA, USC, ND, and Texas will always be included regardless of record.

XII Championship ASU v Iowa St Saturday 12/7 10a

That's exactly why. They also want to max the probability of "marquee" teams advancing to the semis and beyond.
  12. Raindog

XII Championship ASU v Iowa St Saturday 12/7 10a

Laughable. Clemson has zero quality wins this entire season other than SMU... which they almost choked away.

Momentum is also typically a big determining factor in these types of subjective scenarios, and if that holds up here, it favors ASU in a big way. Nobody beyond Oregon (maybe) has really been on as much of a roll as ASU in the latter half of the season.

XII Championship ASU v Iowa St Saturday 12/7 10a

Yeah, that's correct. Also, why Notre Dame can't get a bye.
  15. Raindog

XII Championship ASU v Iowa St Saturday 12/7 10a

I don't see how any team that lost their final game could possibly get one of the byes. Nor should any three loss team. So that eliminates SMU, Penn State, Clemson, Texas, Ohio State. I know it doesn't guarantee CFP won't pull some shenanigans, but just stating what the proper outcome should be.

XII Championship ASU v Iowa St Saturday 12/7 10a

I have to believe this will lift ASU into the bye. There's no way they can give it to either Clemson or SMU.

Clemson masterfully trying to choke this game away.
  18. Raindog

XII Championship ASU v Iowa St Saturday 12/7 10a

I would say Clemson beating SMU represents our best chance to get one of the bye spots. Other than that, I'm not sure it makes much difference.

SEC Championship is a dud... at least in the first half. Not particularly impressed with either of these overrated teams.

XII Championship ASU v Iowa St Saturday 12/7 10a

At the end of last year, I got into an argument with some idiot on FB who was claiming the only reason that ASU was being allowed to join the B12 was because they also had to take them to get Arizona to join, which is who they really wanted. :D :D :D PS - I would like to find that guy now and...

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. But then remembered they had mentioned earlier that the broadcast guys are old buddies with his dad. Not too much favoritism there.

Yeah, unless he can somehow disconnect his own head before he tackled him, there is literally nothing else physically that could possibly done differently. That rule is so stupid.

He has to be top five finalist, at minimum. Nobody beyond (arguably) Hunter and Jeanty is worthy over him.
