Faneca is the perfect fit. If he wants Hutchinson or Davis type money, we won't pay it, I'm certain.

The title of the thread assumes we will go after a big money free agent at market prices. Bad assumption, in my opinion.

Graves has said we won't pursue those kinds of players. Believe him and move on or suffer slow inevitable disappointment. The choice is yours.

I just expect the worst, and am pleasantly surprised when good things happen. Makes it much easier as a fan. :mostlydarksider:

Faneca brings leadership and a nasty demeanor that this team needs. Wells is not a run blocking guard, he's better suited at tackle. CB's are pretty much a dying breed because of the offensive minded officiating now. Even Champ Bailey is getting scorched. There's no such thing as a shutdown corner anymore.

Faneca is proven. Suggs worries me because I don't know how productive he'd be without the surrounding cast that he has in Baltimore. He doesn't seem to shed blocks too well in run support and I think he benefitted from the D getting pressure so he was getting 1 on 1 or free shots at the qb for sacks.

It's the same sad, sorry song and dance every year. 'Next year' we'll be players in the market. 'When we're only a piece or two away' we'll be players in the market. We are now at the point that a few key veteran additions could put us over the top. What do we do? Count ourselves out of the market before it even opens. Brilliant, I say

Overall, we don't have a problem scoring points. Our defense is a jeckyl and hyde scenario, occasionally looking like one of the premiere units in the NFL, and other times looking like a total disaster.

We are terrible in passing defense, and while the easy thing to do is blame our Corners, the real problem is that we lack any consistent pass pressure. If you need an example of why we struggle, watch the Denver Broncos play. Denver has Champ Bailey and Dre Bly at corner and still gets torched. Why? No pass pressure. You can add all the talent in the world at CB but if NFL QB's have a chance to set up in the pocket, take their time and just wait for an opening, they will shred any secondary no matter how talented.

Assuming we commit completely to the 3-4 scheme, my most sought after free agent would be Suggs. I know there is complaint that he's 1 dimensional, but we have a good compliment of players that can stop the run already. I think a solid pass rusher would be the most impactful upgrade to this team, and would instantly improve our secondary. Again, that assumes we are going to commit to the 3-4 where Suggs is really best used. If we're going to continue the hybrid thing, then I would rather just draft an end that can also play OLB and pick up Faneca.
