Independence Day was a fun and entertaining movie, so I can not agree with you on that one, but The Day after Tomorrow was terrible. I was really expecting much more on that one. Didn't the same guys make Godzilla.

I like how a 1997 laptop was able to easily communicate with an alien ship and how we programmed that shield virus so quickly. Humans are smart.

Come on, he worked for the cable company after all.

Bill Paxon single handedly ruined that film for me. Oh, and a crappy screen play and a bit too much expectations of willing suspension of disbelief. I thought it was terrible. Best alien movie ever? Capenters The Thing. Alien. The first Predator. Mars Attacks, for the love of god!

I have a soft spot for Tim Burton, campy film, and ok I admit Michael J Fox...

Mars Attacks is hilarious. But I was being facetious about it being a great alient film...

I don't think anyone should praise Mars Attacks based on being campy and then complain about ID being campy. They were both shooting from the hip.

Mars Attacks was uber campy, sure, but ID had plot holes big enough to drive a truck through.

I guess you missed the part of the movie were aliens invaded our world.

I am not sure you can really say anything with that being the central story line has plot holes since it is something based on a made science. I think that is called science fiction. Next thin you know, you are going to say "Star Gate" had plot holes because they teleported. All science fiction has plot holes since most the the ideas are comletely made up. That is why I love them so much, you do not have to think, you just enjoy.

I absolutely hated Independence Day... I tried to watch it, but when Smith punches the alien and knocks it out through it's like 2 foot think protective suit.. please. I'd rank Forbidden Planet much higher. Best all time though for me is Aliens, but I also loved Starship Troopers.

Starship Troopers was a horrible movie. Horrible acting and horrible action scenes. As a Marine watching their "tactics" made me laugh. They all ran around like idiots. One scene had them completely surround a bug/alien in a 360 degree circle and shoot at it. Miraculously none of them shot each other. The main character was gay and Denise Richards as a pilot was comical. Predator and Aliens are the easily the best.

10000 BC is getting a whopping 8% from rottentomatoes.com. I can't recall seeing a movie get a lower score there, ouch.

(Oh and for the record, I liked Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. And Starship Troopers might be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. :D)

"10,000 BC" a mammoth at worldwide box office
Sunday March 9

"10,000 BC," a widely ridiculed prehistoric action movie boasting a menagerie of exotic beasts, trampled the competition at box offices around the world.

According to studio estimates issued on Sunday, the Warner Bros. Pictures release sold $61 million worth of tickets during its first weekend.

The North American contribution was $35.7 million from 3,410 theaters, an easy No. 1 ahead of fellow rookie "College Road Trip" with $14 million.

The North American opening was "right on target," said Dan Fellman, president of domestic theatrical distribution at the Time Warner Inc-owned studio. Pundits had expected an opening in the $30 million to $40 million range.

The film, which Fellman said cost "slightly north" of $100 million to make, was almost unanimously ripped by critics. USA Today described it as a "bombastic bore" and The New York Times as "sublimely dunderheaded."

Newcomer Steven Strait stars as a mammoth hunter who battles a horde of slave-traders. Gargantuan birds and saber-tooth tigers add to the intrigue. The film was directed by Roland Emmerich, the German auteur behind such hits as "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow."

"10,000 BC" also opened at No. 1 in 19 of 20 territories, picking up a total of $25.3 million. Top markets included Spain ($4.5 million) and Mexico ($3.8 million). It opens in Italy and the United Kingdom on Friday.
