Ouch. We can say that our bench is deeper, but unfortunately our starters were outplayed. Anyone watch the game in person?

Just observations from the box score:

-Raja stunk it up. 2-12 FG 1-7 3Pt.

-Barbosa had a nice game off the bench. 17pts, 7-13 FG, 2-5 3pt, 2 stl, 4 assists.

-Jones cooled off the 2nd half of the game, going 5-14 FG, but added 14 Pts.

-KT only had 5 shot attempts, making 3 of them in 16 mins. Looks like he had foul trouble.

-Marion had a solid line as usual.

-Nash didn't shoot the ball particularly well.

-Diaw had 6 assists in 27 mins.

-The Warriors starters just simply out played us. They shot the ball really well, and Dunleavy had himself a game (which he always does against us).

-Our defense played better after the first quarter, but still not spectacular.

Like I said these are just some observations from the box score, I wish I was able to actually watch the game. Guess I will have to wait til the weekend.

hey as long as the bench is deeper and we get more rebounds than other teams I am happy, winning is way overated.t's pretty much everything that was asked for last year and we have it.

Boy am I grateful for the ignore list;) I say our bench is deeper because as I was watching Flashtime play by play we started making a slow comeback when it was bench to bench action. Barbosa was on a tear and how about Thompson's 7 points in 7 minutes? The thing that really strikes me is how many fouls KT and Grant had in so few minutes. Too bad House wasn't on fire or something. Oh well, as usual I am encouraged by Diaw's line given the minutes to produce.

looking at the boxscore it seems GS played most of their starters normal minutes. Don't see much point in that.

soild performance from Jones again.

Ap write up.

Crazy game of runs. GS had a 19 point lead in the first half but the Suns lead at halftime. 4th quarter defense has been pretty good for the Suns but they couldn't overcome the 41-13 pasting in the third.

Golden State 108, Phoenix 96

By JANIE McCAULEY, AP Sports Writer
October 20, 2005

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Baron Davis had 17 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and three steals, and Mike Dunleavy scored 30 points, leading the Golden State Warriors to a 108-96 exhibition victory over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.

Dunleavy scored 16 points in the first quarter and finished 10-for-14 from the field and made all five of his free throws. Jason Richardson added 18 points and five rebounds for the Warriors.

Shawn Marion had 20 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots and Steve Nash had 10 assists for the Suns, who split their four games with the Warriors last season. This game could be a bit of a gauge for Golden State considering Phoenix lost to NBA champion San Antonio in the Western Conference finals last season.

The Warriors are optimistic of finally ending the league's longest playoff drought at 11 years. They believe that with Davis leading the way all season and having most of their roster returning from a squad that showed promise late last season, they will be able to contend for a playoff spot in the challenging Western Conference. Golden State hasn't been to the postseason since 1994.

Phoenix rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit and used a late 25-2 run for a 53-49 halftime lead. Then the Warriors went on a 20-4 spurt in the third quarter to take control.

After dealing for Davis at the trading deadline last February, Golden State went 18-10, beat eight playoff teams and won 14 of its final 18 games. And the Oakland Arena was rocking again.

While the Warriors are still figuring out their timing, Davis provided a glimpse of the high-energy style Golden State hopes to play: He made a between-the-legs pass to Zarko Cabarkapa for a layin midway through the second quarter that drew gasps from a franchise-record exhibition crowd of 17,323. Later, Davis hit Dunleavy with a snazzy pass for an easy hoop.

Backup Golden State point guard Derek Fisher dislocated his right middle finger with 11:25 left in the second quarter and did not return.

Man, sounds like a depressing game.

Out of Q, JJ and Hunter, i think Hunter might almost be the guy we missed now Amare's out. I think he could muster up more interior offense then (the severly overrated duo) of KT and Grant compined.

What sticks out from the preseason game boxscores is that
- we get pretty less free throws
- we shoot relativley well
- we get A LOT of assists
- we block and steal OK
- WE FOUL SO MUCH

While the assists thing is a good thing, the fouls do bother me

huh?...To paraphrase a former sun.....Comparing Kurt Thomas (offensive game) to Steven Hunter's (offensive game) is like comparing Michael Jordan to Mario Elie...

I think KT was a VERY solid addition and i just hope he holds up enough until we get the Amare of old back.....i think our frontcourt has the potential to be the best in the league...i also think our backourt rotation is the best in the league (but i am bias) so when Amare comes back, these minutes players a re getting will be a good thing if we do not fall to far behind.....

on last point...we might have a problem on our hands up in the NW....my cousin is a diehard sonics fan and he has been telling me that fans, players, and gm's have been raving about Johan Petro.....i think going into last nights game he had a ridiculous 18 blocks in 17 minutes....and i know in the first half he had at least two more last night....

one teammate even compared him to Olajuwon with a less developed offensive game at this point. 7 footer who can jump out of the gym and block shots....all of a sudden that Seattle front line of Collison, Evans, a defensive gem in Petro and Fortson and a project in Swift, they have a nice combo of athleticism and size, rebounding and defense at the 4 and 5 Not too much scoring yet though so im not too worried.

however, thats not even including 6-10 Radmonovic and some times PF Rashard Lewis....depending on the new coach, the might be better than i previously thought....

Hmmm - preseason game against team without best player - sounds like a 'gauge game' to me...

When you have been a perennial bottom-dweller it is. I'd take it as a compliment if I were the Suns.

My prediction still stands. The Warriors will be the surprise team of the West and will be seeded 4-6 come playoff time.

I agree that the Warriors will be good this year, but I completely disagree that this game means *anything* for either side.

I'm not sure I would call Golden State a "surprise team" when there are so many people predicting that they will be good this year. As long as they stay healthy I think they will probably get a 4-6 playoff seed.

Golden state might be my #2 team to keep track of this year, going to be a lot of fun to watch.

I was feeling kind of down that if things go bad for the suns (5% chance) without Amare I wouldn't have much interest in this season with the Heat (yay another shaq ring pfft), or Spurs being the top dogs but if golden state works well enough they have a big chance so it would be great tuning in.

I'll be honest and say I hope the spurs and heat choke and we run into something like a suns vs pacers or if Amare has recovery problems a golden state vs pacers final.

ArizonasFinest, "I think KT was a VERY solid addition and i just hope he holds up enough until we get the Amare of old back....."

I agree with that but this,

"huh?...To paraphrase a former sun.....Comparing Kurt Thomas (offensive game) to Steven Hunter's (offensive game) is like comparing Michael Jordan to Mario Elie..."

I have to disagree with.

KT is not a bigtime scorer and last year he actually scored fewer points per minute played than Steven Hunter. Hard to believe, I know, but it's true. I'm not claiming that shows Hunter is better offensively than Kurt but it does show your parallel comparison is very far off the mark.

KT is a good 'jump' shooter out to 17 feet which Hunter will probably never be but the statement you took exception to said that Hunter could muster more interior offense than Thomas and Grant combined. That may be a bit of a stretch but not by much since Thomas and Grant certainly don't work at scoring inside these days. Hunter, at least, tries so he sort of wins by default.

The bad thing about the Warriors game was that they outshot the Suns at the FT line 28-10. Continuing a pattern that also showed in the other games, only worse. Overall the Suns are getting to the FT line a little more than half as often as the oppponents.

They also outrebounded the Suns about 48-34... let's hope thats not the start of another trend.

We'll see about the potential of their rotation soon enough! Petro is a foul magnet at the moment and he gets less minutes at the 5 than Collison but his potential has looked huge. He is much more brawny than Swift and more athletic as well. Swift's athleticism is the only pleasant surprise about him. He is timid and raw offensively, although said to be good at passing for a center, and too thin to account for much on defense. Collison is a solid player and most people up here want him to be the starting 4 but Weiss likes the combination of Collison and Fortson later in the game (that's his reasoning at least) so he won't get the start most likely. Fortson is a whiner and out of shape but he's still an "enforcer" type they need. They'll have more problems than last year I'd imagine.
They won't miss Daniels as Murray will aptly fit that role and James will only be missed a little as he rarely played hard. Dunno. Good times for me following the Sonics, Warriors, and Suns. The Blazers don't even have a prayer though.

It should be an exciting matchup still.
