Let's face it, Larry Fitzgerald's recent stats aren't eye popping when you see them on a computer screen, and with all of the current contract talk, the Arizona Cardinal fans are starting to second guess whether or not this team should pony up the 23.6 million Fitzgerald is due, should he stay. He has been the face of this franchise through the thick and thin, and after eleven seasons I seriously doubt Arizona calls it quits with Fitz. Even at age 31, I believe him to still be the current and undisputed MVP on the Arizona Cardinals.

Larry Fitzgerald was on pace for another 1,000 yard season, it would have been his first since 2011. He missed two games due to injury, wasn't 100% for part of the season, and once again had three best friends when it comes to quarterbacks. What he did do was command attention, which allowed our other receivers to be successful. In days past, it was just pass it to Fitz. Now Arians has a offense that doesn't pass to him all the time, but he still uses Fitzgerald on almost every play. Since Arians has arrived he has been in motion much more, assigned to blocks coming from the edge, and he has taken on the new duties like a true professional.

Some will read this, and wonder how I could write this Fitzgerald MVP garbage when the man only has two touch downs this year, but again, Fitz is being used in a different manner this year. If he were on another team and if the conditions were right, the numbers would be there. He hasn't lost a step in my opinion, and there are great receivers in the NFL that aren't lightning fast, running routes is a work of art. Larry Fitzgerald wrote the book when it comes to catching the ball at it's highest point, some times when people find out I'm a Cardinals fan, it's like they offer condolences, and then mention what a great guy and receiver Larry Fitzgerald is.

I think Fitzgerald has a lot left on the clock, other HOF receivers have put up great numbers in their thirties, Rice was crazy old. He continues to set NFL records, and will be Palmer's biggest reason for success. My MVP was a toss up between Fitzgerald and Jared Veldheer, but when I look at the history and the on and off field benefits of having a super star, one that doesn't turn around and grab his junk but actually gets the attention because he is someone you can show your kids... my coin came up Larry.

11 Reasons/Records

Youngest player to reach 11,000 career receiving yards (30 years, 85 days )

Youngest player to record 900 catches (31 years, 102 days)

Youngest player to record 800 catches (30 years, 57 days)

Youngest player to reach 7,000 career receiving yards (26 years, 111 days)

Most receiving yards in a postseason: 546 (2008)

Most receptions in a postseason: 30 (2008)

Most touchdown receptions in a postseason: 7 (2008)

Cardinals Franchise Records

Most career yards from scrimmage (11,430)

Most career receiving yards (11,367)

Most career receiving touchdowns (87)

Most career receptions (846)

Now keep in mind he has done this with Josh McCown, Shaun King, John Navarre. Kurt Warner (praise Jesus), Matt Leinart, Derek Anderson, John Skelton, Max Hall, Kevin Kolb, Brian Hoyer, Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton and finally (yet once again) Ryan Lindley.

Larry Fitzgerald has basically been married 13 times in eleven years.

He is the Arizona Cardinals, both on and off the field. He was here in 2008, back when Dansby was here, back when we loved Q, he's been to the big dance and that's why the younger players look up to him and believe. Role models are hard to find in this day of age, and Fitz is true class. He works with multiple charities, the First Down Fund is the one I like, and during the off season he does the Walter Mitty... are you kidding me?

Well that's it, my MVP vote hasn't changed in years, much thanks for reading.

I'm completely torn on this. I love the guy for all the reasons you posted and I don't want to see him in another uni but the team has to come first. Glad it's not my decision.

One of the best posts I've ever read on this forum; couldn't agree more. For those who were diehards pre Larry it's hard to comprehend what a change it has been to have a consumate pro like Larry on our team.

All that, plus he's still a fantastic WR. I don't care what his stats say. He'd be well over 1000 yards this season if Palmer hadn't been injured. They were just starting to find a rhythm. Hate the idea of seeing him in a different uniform.

I will be devastated if he's not back. I can't fathom him in any other uniform. Great, great post.

It depends on how much value Fitz puts on staying a Cardinal? Will he be stubborn and say no to a restructure and hamstring the team?Balls in Fitz`s court.

Love this post Dawg! And I wonder how many other great receivers have had to endure the long list of pathetic QB's (the exception being Kurt of course) Fitz has had... Andre Johnson comes to mind, but he did have Schaub for a while...

It gets to me that people undervalue the 'face of the franchise' thing Fitz brings.

Just as much as Manning was the face of the franchise in Indy yet he is no longer a Colt. Now he is the face of the franchise in Denver. It's not an undervalue thing it's simply a business thing. No matter how much fans love the face you cannot hamstring the entire organization for one player. Look at Unitas, he finished playing his career in San Diego. He was the face of Baltimore. The only real question that remains is "How badly does Fitz want to stay and end his career in AZ."

Great post, Dawg! Larry Fitzgerald is certainly a role model. His work ethic, his dedication to the game, his continued unselfishness are all exemplary---and they set the bar standards-wise for all the players in the organization.

The ball is in Fitz's hands now because of his contract. If it is his wish to bring his talents elsewhere, he deserves to do what he thinks best. I would not begrudge him that. Surely, it would be sad to see him go. But, no matter what he does, I will always be a fan and will root for him, except if he is ever playing versus the Cardinals.

Based on a flurry of reports, it doesn't appear its likely Fitz is a Cardinal next year.

http://www.foxsports.com/arizona/st...rry-fitzgerald-doesnt-expect-to-return-123114

"We've had ongoing talks with (Fitzgerald's agent) Eugene Parker, and we will continue to have ongoing talks," Keim added. "Even though it's still not 2015, it's my job to look at 2015, '16, '17 and years beyond, and we have to make good business decisions."

But Fitzgerald is unlikely to restructure his deal again. He would have counted $18 million against the Cardinals 2014 salary cap, but he agreed to a deal that created about $10 million in cap space for the Cardinals this season by converting salary to bonus money.

This is the only comment Fitz has been quoted on regaurding this stupid rumor mill.

"It has not crossed my mind," Fitzgerald said Wednesday after the Cardinals practice. "I'm in the midst of an opportunity that doesn't come too often, so all my energy and everything is focused on helping my team win."

Whoever the source is is full of it, Fitz doesn't do the diva, or make it about him. He is happy we are in the playoffs. FOX Sports is as bad as FOX NEWS, they just want to shock with all these unnamed "sources", it's pure garbage.

Go look at the Cards website or a Big Box store and try and find something with #11 on it. The face of the franchise designation has been changing for the last 12 months. If you haven't noticed, it's because you're not paying attention.

Fitz has been aces at relying on his representation to take the hit over and over and over. When the rubber hits the road, he's always chosen his dollars at the expense of the team.

As for the OP? I'm not sure what his career values have to do with his current value to the Arizona Cardinals. Fitz is the youngest but not the fastest player to these records because he came out so very young. Hm.

Face of the franchise is garbage. It's to sell jerseys. I does nothing to win games.

The Cardinals have been preparing for this. Open the cardinal app and it has PP21 and Floyd on the opening page no Fitz anywhere.

Love Fitz don't want him to leave. But he is worth a 3rd of the money he is making. The numbers need to be closer so we can keep talent on this team.

The choice is on Fitz. He has made a ton of money there is nothing to feel sorry about. Now his contracts need to be about winning a superbowl.

Fitz does the Diva lol he just is smart about it. His brother and dad will do it for him or he will have representation leak it out. You will never see a quote from Fitz that comes off diva because of the people around him. Similar to Steve Nash.... these guys understand that their brand is important.

Impressive list of names that finished their career's somewhere else !

Johnny U ------- Joe Willie -------- J. Montana ------- B. Favre ------ P. Manning

The Zonk ------- The Tyler Rose ------ T. Dorsett ----- E. Smith ------ M. Faulk

I could go on with --- Paul Warfield ----- J. Rice ------ etc. ---- etc , but you get it !

I am hopeful that Larry gets it ,and makes the decision that keeps him a Cardinal , I will feel the sting if he leaves , but that list above is reality ""Business Decision's Get Made""!

Great write up DD. I fully believe Keim will do everything possible to keep him in Cardinal red.

I don't think you get what a face is. It's not whatever the Cards organisation decides. Fitz is easily the most recognised Card. Especially as most other fans don't care or even think much about us. Fitz is pretty much all they think of. Never had anyone near approaching his level since Arizona.

You know what changes that? Getting rid of the perceived face. Peyton Manning was the face of the Indianapolis Colts until he wasn't. It took him about a month to become the face of the Denver Broncos.

What's the monetary value to the current Cards of Fitzgerald's face? I'd argue that it's zero.

Agree, I am sure there were a lot of fans flailing their arms and getting their panties in a bunch when the Colts let Manning go. Fans get over it. If you keep a player on the books for way more than he's worth because he's the face of the franchise then you are only screwing yourself and the team. Face of the Franchise is a term and has no value whatsoever. It doesn't kick a FG or score a TD or throw a pass nor does it intercept a pass or make a single tackle.

Besides changing the face of the franchise will revive jersey sales when a new face is created. The bottom line is winning is what puts fans in the seats.

Honestly to me it would hurt to see Dockett in another uniform more than Fitzgerald. To me it was him and Boldin who brought the change in culture. Fitz is the ultimate professional and if we were 1-15 he would walk the line and say all the right things.

It was Docket and Boldin who stood up and screamed that it was not OK
