Face of the franchise argument is complete bunk been saying that for sometime!
You know what changes that? Getting rid of the perceived face. Peyton Manning was the face of the Indianapolis Colts until he wasn't. It took him about a month to become the face of the Denver Broncos.
What's the monetary value to the current Cards of Fitzgerald's face? I'd argue that it's zero.
Agree, I am sure there were a lot of fans flailing their arms and getting their panties in a bunch when the Colts let Manning go. Fans get over it. If you keep a player on the books for way more than he's worth because he's the face of the franchise then you are only screwing yourself and the team. Face of the Franchise is a term and has no value whatsoever. It doesn't kick a FG or score a TD or throw a pass nor does it intercept a pass or make a single tackle.
Besides changing the face of the franchise will revive jersey sales when a new face is created. The bottom line is winning is what puts fans in the seats.
Don't know that answer... However, every piece of playoff promo ONLY shows Fitz representing the Cards... ESPN and all other media outlets only show an image of Fitz, nobody else.
Not true. Also saw PP.

The ONLY time I saw PP was on ESPN where he was placed BEHIND Fitz. Perhaps you saw things I didn't, but I never saw PP, or any other player other than Fitz, used in any marketing/promo material for the team...
I did when I was in Carolina watching ESPN on Friday. It was Fitz and Peterson both.
That's my point...
Kudos. You thoroughly confused me.
Fitz does the Diva lol he just is smart about it. His brother and dad will do it for him or he will have representation leak it out. You will never see a quote from Fitz that comes off diva because of the people around him. Similar to Steve Nash.... these guys understand that their brand is important.
I confused myself too... which, ironically, isn't all that rare...
Fitz was raised by his late mom, by all accounts an extraordinary woman. His dad is a moron and his brother was raised by his dad, who in turn produced another moron. It holds no weight at all that his brother or father ever speak for what Fitz truly feels. If anything, his father and brother are a continual PR nightmare for him, so lets dump that whole hypothesis right there because it surely does not have enough support to even be a theory. As far as Fitz, I doubt he will be on the team because professional athletes value themselves on money paid regardless of their character when all is said and done. Fitz will some way or another probably end up on a another team. He will not get the money slated in the future from the Cardinals because it would be complete stupidity to pay him that at this juncture if you are building a team and not a Larry shrine. Larry will go somewhere else, and justify his pride by going to another team for less money but turning down the Cardinals who first offered less first and then say to himself it was also because his stats will improve. I luv Fitz for all he gave the Cardinals and wish him the very best and I mean it sincerely
There is no doubt for 11 season and way more than 11 reasons why Fitzgerald has been the Cardinals MVP.
We have been very fortunate as Cardinals fans to see his greatness for over a decade. A true face of the franchise in every way, IMO.
I hope Fitzgerald retires a Cardinals, but we will know soon enough how this plays out.
Whether I, or any other, poster thinks Fitzgerald is worth the money or not, it doesn't really matter. What matter is what the Cardinals want, and what Fitzgerald wants, and how it plays out.
While I am sitting on the sideline for this debate more or less, meaning I prefer to see Fitzgerald stay, but if he goes, then so be it.
That being said, I would wonder why any Cardinals fan would not want to see Fitzgerald back. I understand there are circumstances and reason currently in place that make the situation harder than yes, or no.
But, if it works for both sides, of course the Cardinals would like to have Larry Fitzgerald.
