Just heard this discussion scenario.

1. Browns = Darnold
2. Buffalo (via trade w/Giants) = Josh allen
3. Jets (via trade) = Josh Rosen
4. Denver (via trade w/Browns) = Baker Mayfield

then the rest. Via MMQB Albert Breer and another anonymous NFL scout

Hmmm Cardinals, not so strangely not in play here.

IIRC no draft ever had 4 QBs going top 4 if it happens at all.

Cards if going after a QB could trade down if someone wants Jackson or Rudolph. There will be a half dozen or more 2nd tier QBs.

If that happens, you can list a top 11 players of the draft, and take your pick.

Of if the Cardinals believe in Lamar Jackson, take him at #15, or trade back and risk Rudolph being there at the later pick in the 1st round.

The thing is that the Cardinals have the 15th pick.......simple as that. The spot is the middle of the 1st round, thus there is a chance that no elite players, and no QB's worth the 15th pick will be there.

That is where Keim has to make his money, and get the right guy.

1. Saquon Barkley
2. Bradley Chubb
3. Roquan Smith
4. Quenton Nelson
5. Minkah Fitzpatrick
6. Denzel Ward
7. Tremaine Edmunds
8. Vita Vea
9. Derwin James

--------------------------------

10. Calvin Ridley
11. Lamar Jackson

The Cardinals would be getting a heck of a football player out of those top 9. Barkley would never get to #15, so that is a bit of a non-issue, but some team will reach for a offensive tackle, thus it is a real situation that if the 1st four picks are QB's then the Cardinals could have a chance at getting a top 10 player at 15.

You do know that these guys who are possible 1st round picks after the top 10 are not exactly chopped liver? Some damn fine football players available.

Yup.

But, after years of having the Cardinals GM reach for those diamonds in the rough, I would prefer he select a diamond that is right in front of his face at the counter of the store.

I think those 9 players are the best of the best in the draft.

After that, it is a big pool of big potential, and I think the draft is deep till around the 4th round as well.

It wouldn't shock me. If not the Broncos, the Bills could jump into that spot if they get desperate enough.

I think 3 will go in the top 4 no matter what.

Yup. Browns take Barkley #1 to prevent the Giants or a team trading up to get him and then grab Allen or Mayfield at #4.

They have a chance to grab the best RB and a top 3 QB. Hard to pass that up.
Easy to pass up when you haven't had a decent QB on your roster in the history of your franchise. (Let's be honest here, we have to ignore pre-Ravens Browns because it's not the same team.)

Even with, they hadn't drafted a decent QB since Bernie Kosar and didn't get one in Baltimore until Flacco.

All good with me...you already know at least 2 of those QB's are going to bust. That gives the Cards a chance to grab someone like Nelson, Chubb, Ward, or James if they fall. This QB feeding frenzy could be a blessing in disguise for the Cards to land a player who would never make it beyond the top 10.

to trade the capital it would take to get an unknown at #4 (could be any of them) would irritate me more than anything. Trading DURING the draft to draft a SPECIFIC guy would be different. Trading to #4 is just saying I will take whoever falls to #4.

Exactly the reason I’m saying the Browns have to call their shot at #1 and take the QB they believe in.

The effect on your team between taking a mediocre QB at 4 vs. waiting until later in the draft for a capable running back in the 2nd round is palpable.

With Carlos Hyde on the roster, they’d be idiotic not to call their shot at QB at 1.

Browns appear to prefer having future picks over picking players. They're like hoarders who collect pizza boxes and rat turds and are happy with their collection.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Browns trade one or (yikes) even both of their top picks. They could trade down with several teams and still have lower round first picks in this draft . . . and hoard away the top picks for several future drafts. They could fill out their roster this year with top players at their position, see what Taylor+Hyde do for their offense---and be in the catbird seat for next year's draft class.

If for some reason Quentin Nelson makes it out of the top ten I would like to see us move up and take him. The guy should be a pro-bowl guard for years.

Not a bad move. For years the Cowpies invested in the top guy along the OL---they were like the Cards with mid round picks. I thought it was strange that they were not paying any attention to a bad D by taking OL players. Once they got the OL in place, they took a 4th round QB and RB Elliott and now are competitive.

We talk about a franchise QB---also need to think about a franchise OL.

or take the QB #1 if you love him. Take that #4 and sell it for a king's ransom and grab that other RB and WRs later. Barkley is arguably the best player in the draft, but he's a RB.

and

The 2016/2017 QB crop was one of the best ever. 2018 has the possibility to match or exceed those. 2019, on paper looks like dog crap at QB. It is easy to imagine a unprecedented run on QBs at the top.

While they agree he's a great player, I have heard more than one guy say that Barkley is not exactly this every down back people are putting him out to be. A home run threat but they pointed out his games and how many times he actually carried the ball, and games like he had against Rutgers. Again, they are saying he is a great player but the drop off is not that huge from what is a nice draft class

Buffalo hasn't moved up yet with only McCarron on their roster. For them to leave the door open for another team to move into the 4 slot leads me to believe they aren't high on the "top" 4 and won't pay the price unless one of their guys is available. A draft day deal is a possibility. Jets screwed em.
I just can't see the giants passing on Eli's successor for Barkley.

Giants could be Bills trading partner.
