I know changing any two plays could impact the whole season but think how these two plays impacted the Big Red and the entire playoff picture: the blown call in the Giants game and the fumble at the 1 in Cincy. We were that close to the post season and without NY & Cincy.

The fumble had a bigger impact than Doucet being tackled by the grass ?

Or Jay Feely missing two field goals in Seattle ?

We were blocked FG's and 1 yard away from losing a few too.

This.

We're an 8-8 team. We could have easily won a couple more, we could have easily lost a couple more.

We need better QB play; I don't care who it comes from. If we had more consistency under center we'd be in the playoffs.

Yes because without the fumble, Doucet's play at the end wasn't necessary.

The fumble created the pressure that apparently led to Doucet's "choke."

Indeed. You are what your record says you are. We can make some breaks, but too often we let the game get out of our hands. Considering that we couldn't put away the Rams twice and couldn't handle either the Vikings or the Redskins (although both were no the road). We're a middle-class NFL team right now, and games decided by 7 points or less (that's all of our wins and all but two of our losses) are essentially random.

We've got to find a way to put together a consistent offense next year. We went from 31st in yardage and scoring last year to 19th in yardage and 24th in scoring this year.

A re-vamped (again) offensive line will be a minus for improvement, but hopefully an offseason for Kolb and some of the coaches' attention for Skelton will be a net plus, along with Ryan Williams and Housler coming along.

That.

Also - an often overlooked "pull a play out of your butt" award winner in the Seattle game was when - on 3rd & inches at a key point in the game - Wiz dials up a TD'S pass to Heap.

My point - When you're playing "woulda-coulda", remember that we were beneficiaries of some stuff that went right.

First: I am a believer in the "you are what your record says"

that being said: it is fun to point out just how close the margin is between winning and losing. A few examples from this year:

1. Against New York -- late in the game Eli threw a backshoulder ball to Manningham (IIRC) that AJ Jefferson had sniffed out and was all over -- the ball goes through AJs hands and happens to bounce right into the intended receiver's hands. AJ picks that ball off and the game is effectively over.

2. Against Washington and Balt: late in each game the Cardinals tipped a couple passes at the line of scrimmage that hung in the air, yet found the ground between Cardinal defenders. More generally-- I have never seen a team tip so many passes at the line where not a single one was intercepted.

Go back and read the post. I'm not playing "woulda-coulda" as you call it. I acknowledge that any two plays would change a season. I was just musing about these two in particular and said so. We could have been 12-4 or 4-12 just as easily.
