Who are some of the top prospects that we should be in the running for after having this terrible year? Hopefully, there is a stud pitcher we can draft. Thoughts? Links to 2005 draft prospects? Thanks!

The highest pick we can have next year is #2 because the NL and AL alternate years, the Padres had the #1 pick this year, so the worst AL team will have it next year

This year's draft will also be the last time the leagues will alternate selections. Beginning in 2005, teams will draft in reverse order of winning percentage, regardless of league.

Justin Upton very well could be the first pick in the 2005 draft, though right now the Expos would own that pick and perhaps they would want to choose someone who could help them in the more immediate future. The early hyperbole on Justin is that he's better than B.J. was at the same stage, though if he's even nearly as good as B.J. has looked so far, that should be plenty good enough. Next year's crop almost has to be better than the 2004 group by default, especially in terms of position players.
