Does anyone follow NCAA track & field?

The final day of the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Championship is today in Sacramento, and I was wondering if anybody aside from myself on this forum was interested.

Always some future Olympians to watch, at any rate. :p

Wow. I wish college track was more popular.

Arkansas Sophomore Wallace Spearmon just ran the best 200m in the world this year at 19.91 seconds. That beats teamate Senior Tyson Gay's world-beating 200 of 19.93 set in the prelim's on thursday. Gay's run beat Spearmon's best time in the world from earlier in the year. That's amazing at the college level.

Arkansas' coach John McDonnell has the most impressive record in the history of Divsion I sports and nobody has heard of the guy. 40 National Championships in 20 years, and it looks like tonight he will get his 41st.

On the Women's side, Texas' commanding lead from this morning is now in danger by UCLA, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

This may be the closest National Championship ever. Arkansas barely holds of Florida to put the Men's side out of reach by their 1,3,8 finish in the 200m, giving them 17 points to retake the lead at 56-44.

And it looks like the Womens will be decided by a single race, the 4x400 relay. South Carolina must beat Texas by 5 points to win and UCLA is 7 points back but nobody in the 4x400. They only have one racer left and she needs to win her event to get the 10 points a 1st place finish earns. I hope the crowd in Sacramento appreciates what they are watching, this is as close as it gets in track.

Amazing, UCLA's last hope just came through. Candice Baucham wins the triple jump, giving them a 3 point lead. It all comes down to the 4x400.
I would rather this be on TV than the College Baseball Super Regionals. I can't stand listening to aluminum bats.

LSU just edges Arizona State in the Men's 4x400, which was apparently ran at an Olympic pace. CBS is supposed to air this later in the week.

The 2008 Olympics are going to be dominated by Team USA.

Texas Women win the National Championship by winning the 4x400. South Carolina and UCLA tie with 48 points to trail Texas's 55.

LSU set an all-time men's collegiate record in the 4x400 at a blazing 2:59.59, with two freshman at that.

The official results in the Women's 4x400 haven't been posted yet, but the top three teams apparently ran 3.27. Must have been crowded at the finishline.

The NCAA Championships will be shown on CBS, June 18, starting at 2:30pm EST. I hope some people will tune in. There were quite a few records set this weekend.

I used to follow Track and Field a lot closer than I do now - will watch it from time to time still.

I did go see the NCAA's back in the early 80's when the championship was in Illinois.
